Success or Failure...

I've been doing a lot of browsing...

I've found a lot of successful stories, which are great, but I've also found a lot of threads with people saying that they aren't getting anywhere with things...

It's so easy to become less than enthusiastic about things when you keep finding people saying:

I've been at this for 6 months and I am not getting anywhere with this...

or

I exercise 6 days a week and eat only healthy foods and it's not working...

I remember the first time I started my journey... I was 18 and I knew that I had to make better choices though... I started eating less unhealthy things and cut out the sugary drinks... I remember being a lot more active.

I never recall fretting over everything... once I was a few months into it it just seemed more natural for me...

I lost so much weight at that time, I went from 286 down to 199-200 lb... not all at once of course... that'd just be silly. It was over the period of a year or two.

I kept it off for a long while though... mostly maintaining the weight that I'd gotten down to.

Here I am 4-5 years later... Back up to 255 lb. My drinking of the beer has picked up over the years and I know that my eating habits are worse now than they were when I had lost the weight and I know that I haven't been anywhere near as active as I should be.

So it's obvious to me that I need to start making better choices... only this time I need to keep them.

I suppose I'm typing this because hearing of all the people posting that they are trying so hard and not getting anywhere can put some fear into a person... and I'm sure that other newcomers that find those posts could easily be deterred from the path to better fitness as well...

Do any professionals in here have any advice to offer for those that are wondering why so many people are making honest attempts to lose weight only to find themselves not getting anywhere???

One would assume that if you are doing things correctly, by following the stickes and such, that a lowering of body-fat would be inevitable.... right?

I just found a nifty link to another thread....

Thanks to Mal.

I'm putting it on here so that maybe those out there that aren't experienceing the results they expect might stumble across this and find it useful....

If you are consuming the amount of calories required to maintain your target weight you will lose weight, rare medical conditions not withstanding.

I think that "diet failure" is usually caused by consuming more calories than you think you are. I'm certainly no expert, but that's my novice opinion.
