Stuck at my current weight any Suggestions

I decided last November to lose weight. I weight 250lbs and was not happy with myself. I started by walking on the treadmill each evening for about 30 minutes. I eventually got to the point where I was jogging for 45 minutes to 60 minutes a night at 6-7 mph at a 2.5% grade. The weight came off really good from november to july where I lost about 48lbs. I have kept track of my milage on the treadmill and I have jogged over 900 miles so far. It sure is not as fun taking it off as it was putting it on :) I have been stuck in a rut since july where I just fluctuate between 202 and 205 for the last few months. My body fat percentage is 19% according to a nurse at the clinic I went to when I had my physical this year in July.

Does anybody have any suggestions to get the weight loss kicked in again. I would like to get down to about 185.

I will be going Elk hunting for 9 days this week. So maybe that will kick in the metabolism. I usually hike about 8-10 miles a day while hunting.

dance

Hi,

It sounds like you're doing a tremendous amount of exercise already. One thing that has helped me is line dance. I try to go 3 times a week, when possible. I throughly enjoy this. It also gets me off the couch, away from the kitchen....It's also social. I'd recommend trying it.

I'm currently about to go into the same problem, I'm still technically losing weight, just not as fast. What I did read though is that, your body will only burn the amount of calories you take in. So, if you take in for example (I'm no expert, but..) say 4,050 calories a day, and you're a big person, your body will burn a large amount of calories. But then when you stop taking in so many calories, your body will continue to burn that same amount and you will lose weight.
But eventually, your body will get smart and will adjust. For example, now instead of taking in 4050 calories a day, you take in 2050 calories a day. Well when your body adjusts, instead of burning say 3000 calores a day, it will now only burn 1500 calories a day.
So i read that what you need to do is trick yourself. Eat a higher amount of calories for a week or wekk and a half, then when your body starts to burn more, diet again!
So that way your weight will go:

DOWN
STEADY
DOWN
STEADY
DOWN
etc.
So thats what I will be working on. I'll let you all know how it works! :)
What do ya think?

I have also read, in addition to adding some calories for a while and then dieting again, that changing your exercise routine every few months helps. I guess our bodies get used to the exercise we are doing and doesn't need to work as hard. I also have the same problem. Been stuck at this same weight for a couple of months. I jog about 4x a week and think I need to find another activity. Plus it helps to work different muscles. Another suggestion, if you aren't already, add strength training. Muscles burn so many more calories than fat.

Congratulations on the tremendous weight loss and the awesome body fat percentage!

Thanks for the replys.

I hope the 12 miles a day climbing mountains will kick start the weight loss again. If nothing else, my legs are getting toned :)

7 more days of climbing if I don't get something soon.

19% is a very low body fat %..healthy, but very lean. i think you have to not focus on the scale number but more that number. muscle weighs more anyways so maybe that is what you weigh and you could check your inches and bf% which are more accurate anyways.

I work out with a personal trainer. And from what she says, you ahev to keep on changing your excercise routine every once in a while. your body simply gets used to the same routine, and stops reacting. It needs a change/boost.

I hope this helps. I'm only starting I've been excercising for about 1.5-2mo.but have been cheating on my diet. I've lost 5 lbs.

Based on your post, it looks like you are doing strictly cardiovascular exercise. You should definitely add strength training to your routine. As far as the cardio goes, as others have mentioned, your body has probably adapted to what you are currently doing. I suggest you decrease the time and increase your intensity with interval training.

Thanks for all the reply's everybody.

Well I got back from my hunting/hiking trip. I hiked 30 miles in 4 days and jogged another 18 miles at 3% grade at 6 mph over the next 3 days. As of this point I would like to say I lost something, but I stayed exactly the same weight. Oh well, I remember last year when I was 50 lbs heavier, I had to stop and take breaks all the time going up the mountains. This time I basically was able to hike from 8 am to 3 pm with only a 15 minute break for lunch with out stopping or getting tired.

I think I will take the suggestions about strength training. The last time I took my blood preasure it was the best it has been in 15 years. It was 110/63 with a pulse rate of 54.

I still have a little bit of the dreaded love handles and and what I call the dreaded dunlop. My mom is constantly on my case that I am getting to skinny but I keep telling her I am this close to losing it and I want to get down to my goal weight of 185.

Thanks for all your suggestions,

Stuck at 202

Mothers always seem to worry when we lose weight don't they? It's part of that nurturing thing. Of course, I'd rather have the worries than the off-hand comments that come when you gain!
19% is great, but I am assuming you are a guy, in which case 185 is an awesome goal, and will bring you to a really good bf% if you are weight training!
You've done so well- keep it up!!

I'd suggest taking up a weight training program to increase muscle mass :) increasing muscle mass will help fire up your metabolism.

or you can try doing HIIT on your cardio to switch things up and rev things up a little
