Strong Friends Routine.... would it work for me???

Ok, well basically i ran into a friend in the gym 2day. we r both sophomores in high school, and i had heard that he was pretty strong with weights and stuff, especially bench press. I spotted him, and as a 5 foot 8 160 lb guy he did 5 sets of 165 lbs for 8 reps. I am 5 ft 11, also 160 lbs, and my 1 rep max is 155 lol, compared to his 225 lb 1 rep max. I asked him how he got strong in the first place, and he replied that for a year he would take 8 lb dumbbells and do alternate dumbbell curls, 3 sets of 100 reps each set, once a day for at least 4 days a week. I have, however, been on this site enuff to read that this type of working out will not work; however, I want to give my friends workout routine a try and see if it will work for me. It obviously worked for him. What do you guys think?

Complete and utter crap. There, I said it. Hell, even if it did get his biceps stronger, they are not even the target of a bench press. Listen up pilgrim, you will be wasting your time on that routine, I suggest you read around a bit more in the weight training section.

Thats what i thought as well, but then how come he got such good results from it?

It was something else he was doing that got him stronger in bench. Working with bicep curls=working the biceps. The biceps have naught to do with getting a big bench. So for him to say working his biceps got his bench stronger shows a complete lack of knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology.

If you want a strong bench, work the bench and hammer the delts, triceps, and lats.

It theoretically, and should be utter crap. However I used to do that, and I swear it made me stronger, I was like 10 at the time.

k, i understand that working biceps = working biceps and has nothing to do with bench; however, would the routine he is using help to build the biceps?

It probably would have at some stage, although it really depends on the person. But it is in no way the most efficient way of building muscle. You can do anything badly, but until you learn the better way of doing it, you will not see what you are doing as wrong, as you are still getting somewhere with it.
