stress supliments

Ok i am in a tough situation right now, where my moods go from stressed to depressed and everything inbetween. Is there any type of remedie that would help. Money is tight right now and i am in the middle of looking for a new job (interviews) so i hear stuff like kava kava(sp?) but dont know the effects of anything. If someone can help sort of that would be excellent!! Iwould try Yoga but not sure if it will work out $$$ anyways any help will do!

I would start with a search on the net for relaxation techniques be they yoga or meditation or something else. It can't hurt to stretch and breath deeply. But you might also want to look at St. John's Wort as it is said to have mood benefits. I would start with the yoga/meditation/relaxation first though.

And good luck on the job, that will probably help as well.

Hi Kristy

I am no expert myself, but i do read a lot. Most of the artacles that I have come across say that Kava is notg a very good supplement. Don't waste your money. Buy a good book on stress management, or take a course at night school. You will find this very effective, than taking costly supplements, that may even harm you even more. Remember never take anything unless yhou consult with your doc first. Take care and I wish you the very best, during your hard times. :)

stress... something I know too much about :(

Some things that have helped me:

taking a B-150 complex vitamin every AM (I also take a good multi and calcium but I think the B is very important for stress)

cardio (walking outside in the fresh air for distance and/or running as fast as I can on my treadmill to let off steam)

yoga tapes (you don't need to spend $$ on a class or a mat or special clothes just get one or two Rodney Yee beginner Yoga tapes..I like his "Power Yoga" tape personally and just do it on a carpeted surface barefoot)

crying and screaming (seriously this is much better than holding stuff in)

journaling

hope this helps :)

when you get stressed or depressed the only advice i can give is...**** happens itoo am on anti-depressant pills venlafaxine wich are crap and do nothing tbh but hey all you can say is **** happans if there is a reason for it or not

thanks everyone, i have one other thing that i am unsure of.
The christmas of 2003 is just over now, for about two weeks maybe three... i lost a total of 9lbs and i have not done a thing different in my exercise routine to lose weight.... i am normally about 147-152 and the lowest i have ever been in over two years i was at 141.... would that have to do with all the stress at christmas time?? I will be the first to admit that i didnt have the greatest diet either during these two or three weeks, Everyday at work people thought i look tired... and a few times during the weeks i would get a little dizzy and one of those times my hands went numb..... would anyone know what all this is about?? Since i dont have the greatest diet i ended up going out and getting a top notch multivitamin (i dont eat much fruit) Well besides all this i hope everyone will have a great new year, be safe and live life to the fullest!

It does sound like a combination of stress and lack of eating. Make sure you eat a bit more (as 4.5 pounds lost in a week is a bit much), and get plenty of water and rest along with your exercise. The vitamin is a great idea if your diet doesn't cover your needs. Now just keep the trend going!

I saw this post a little late but would still like to add a few cents of mine..

My husband had also gone through and still is going through a lot of stress. He lost a lot of weight during this time and worse still.. lost his sleep.

He tried the following and it helped...

He started meditation not from a book or from a class, just on his own. He would do that once in the morning after having bath and before having breakfast. Once in the night before going to bed.

He would have a warm shower after his meditation.

If time permitted he would also go for a morning walk. The fresh breeze always cheers him up.

Started some vitamins. Don't know the names exactly.

He is an avid reader. So during weekends he gets most relaxation from reading books.

Try something that cheers you up. Keep your thoughts away from what disturbs you. Add some exercises, outdoor activities to your daily routine. I am sure it will help.

spamtastic. as for stress, i too think exercise is one of the best methods for combatting it. im sure yoga and meditation would be good too although i don't partake. healthy eating has to be good too. a stressful job or lacklustre social life have to be up there with the top reasons for a lot of stress though. good luck to everyone overly stressed. :)

Interesting take on that one..... nothing like a positive, optimistic view on things.

Yes, I believe supplements and other methods will help for some time and then the problem may return to you. It is better to change something in your psychology, find the reasons why you are stressed and what is in you which makes you feel stressed.

HELP in coping with stress

I recently found some products that helped give me a soothing sense of well being and aided in calming my body.
I ordered symmetry's stress bundle . It's synergistically blended herbs and nutrients
it consists of 48 servings bottle of liquid aloe plus and/or 50 caplet bottle of tranquility.

It's effective. I do agree that changing the way you think and certain things around you helps fight stress too.

the stress fighter supplements are at

A lifestyle change is always best -- but remember, supplements are there to supplement (help) you on your journey.

Some supplements worth looking into:
1. Kava kava - mental/physical relaxation. Can be bad for the liver though, so be warned.

2. 5-HTP - a precursor to seratonin

3. Ashwaganda - powerful ayurvedic herb for stress alleviation and energy

4. Chamomile - compliments any stress-reliever, and is available in many delivery methods

5. melatonin - a brain nutrient that is extremely important in relaxation and sleep

6. Valerian root - potent relaxant for muscles and mind

A lot of choices huh? I suggest you start with the valerian root and 5-HTP, as I've heard good first-hand accounts regarding these. The others take at your own discretion.

Buy a good book on stress management...:)
"Don't Sweat The Small Stuff...and It's All Small Stuff" - Simple Ways to Keep The Little Things From Taking Over Your Life. By Richard Carlson.
This book is awesome! It completely changed my perceptions. I got mine at Wal-Mart for about $9.

self help books are good....friends are helpful...changing your lifestyle too - i hardly cooked this winter, didn't push myself to do a lot of "edtra" stuff, besides i started exercising and taking care of myself - all helped.

i got out a lot by myself if i hve no one to go with - movies, restaurants, shopping - and i enjoy it.

if you like chanmpagen, chocolate, treat yourself!

yeah, as said here already, its circumstance & the current situation (inbetween jobs, money problems, etc) which are the cause of the stress and depression, these are variables in life which will improve, which, when they do, the stress and depression will elieviate itself and I am sure you will feel much much better.

I hit 'rock bottom' a couple of years ago with major depression, I never could of imagined that it was possible to ever feel so depressed, no one can understand how bad depression can effect you unless they have been through it them selves, and I dont mean the common, regular, feeling a little bit down, I mean extreme depression that stops you even wanting to carry on or being able to get out of bed, with palpitations, panic attacks, the full on works, crying like a baby all day with the feelings of utter despair 24/7......I too was out of work at the time with major money & life worries, 3 young kids etc.....anyways I stayed in bed for an entire week....finally saw a doctor, who's attitude is to send you away with drugs which WONT CURE the problem, because the problem is to do with your life situation and that is what needs to be addressed to solve the symptoms that occur from the stress. So, I threw the drugs that the doctor gave me into the bin and was determined to get through it. I did, it took months of keeping my chin up, I now feel as though it was someone else, not me who suffered that, cant believe I went & got through it, and will never ever allow my mind to do that to me again...

Keep your head up, stick ya chest out and handle it, because after the rain, the sun will shine again, no matter how long it takes.

Stress

well try to find out why the stress is happening to you
are you overworking
relax your mind and body
do yoga and meditation
they are reasonable treatments and they are effective also
all the best
