Strange sleepingproblem

I absolutely do not have any trouble falling asleep. Within 15 minutes I'm gone. The problem is waking up.

I feel AMAZINGLY fatigued whenever I wake up. I fall asleep at around 12AM and wake up at 8AM EARLIEST, feeling like I just ran the marathon. I get 8+ hours of sleep so everything should be alright, no? I'm 17 years old and I don't do anything unusual. I don't take supplements (apart from a multivitamin) and am in very good health but the waking up problem is really getting to me. I used to miss classes (!!!) because of this problem. Lately it is just something that really gets on my nerves and I really really want to get rid of this.

About ~15 minutes after I'm out of bed, I'm cool throughout the day, however.

Any tips?

Ok, Your drowsy for the first 15 minutes after waking. So you assume there must be some medical condition causing this?

You're fine, Its normal, don't fret.

Allot of the time, I will get up in the mornings to do cardio (upright cycle), for the first month, it was a shore for me to get up, becuase obviously if you have slept for 8 hours, this is going to happen. The body has been dormant if you will (but not biologically), for a period of a few hours, and your going to feel sleepy/tired for a while after you first get up.

The way I combat the stage of first getting up, is just "not to think about it" and just pop out of bed, and engage in my pre-routine I set up for this (and yes, I am dressed in my wo clothes before I went to bed), and this gets the blood moving.......that is the secret in the AM really, getting the blood to start moving. In addition, if you do awaken during the time your supposed to be sleeping, drink some water a glass or two, and then go back to bed.

What is your diet like. How much training are you doing. What specific things are you eating?

Feeling drowsy after waking up is normal. It normally takes me a while to fully wake up.
Do you drink much caffeinated drinks in the evening?
If so, you may want to cut back.
"Caffeine is completely absorbed by the stomach and small intestine within 45 minutes of ingestion. After ingestion it is distributed throughout all tissues of the body.
The half-life of caffeine—the time required for the body to eliminate one-half of the total amount of caffeine consumed at a given time—varies widely among individuals according to such factors as age, liver function, pregnancy, some concurrent medications, and the level of enzymes in the liver needed for caffeine metabolism. In healthy adults, caffeine's half-life is approximately 3–4 hours. In women taking oral contraceptives this is increased to 5–10 hours, and in pregnant women the half-life is roughly 9–11 hours. Caffeine can accumulate in individuals with severe liver disease when its half-life can increase to 96 hours. In infants and young children, the half-life may be longer than in adults; half-life in a newborn baby may be as long as 30 hours. Other factors such as smoking can shorten caffeine's half-life."

I can drink a pot of coffee, and still go to sleep within 5 minutes of laying down. I have noticed, and read that even though I may not have a problem falling asleep it effects my REM (Deep) sleep. Meaning even though I get a full 8-9 hours of sleep, I am really shorting myself on healthy quality sleep time.

Funny, if I drink too much caffiene in the evening I pop out of bed early the next morning.

I do think it's normal to be tired when you first wake up. The first 15 minutes I'm awake anything I touch from the icecubes for my water to the stevia for my coffee ends up on the floor, lol.

I often feel like crap right when I get up, but that's because I have really bad sinus problems, they tend to be at their worst when lying prone all night.

Do you notice sinus/nasal congestion?
