Steve MacDonald

I met Steve MacDonald a few weeks back. He competes in Strongman Competitions, and apparently wins a few as well.

He's a bartender at my friend's dad's bar. Nicest guy in the world... but the main reason i posted is because i looked at one of his workouts (this is cut and pasted from his workout log):

Deadlifts from the floor, belt only
135 x 10
225 x 10
315 x 5
405 x 5
500 x 20

What a maniac...

I saw 135x10 and I was like wtf. Then I saw the rest....... lol

Well I only need 19 more reps @ 500 to catch up.

Hmmm...seems to be a common trend among strongmen competitors lately that they're hittin' really high rep deadlifts.

I had a friend that was doing a 20 rep deadlift program ala 20 rep squat style, and Charles Staley advised him not to engage in that high of reps. He had the usual points of lower back fatigue leading to etc etc etc. I'd like to see a debate between Jesse Marunde and Staley on to do 20 rep deads vs not to do 20 rep deads.

It makes sense to dead for reps if that's what they're gonna do in competition, but who knows?
