Staying Motivated

Hey guys,

I'm 31, about six feet tall and currently about 220 pounds. I used to be about 180, so I've got a long way to go. I've already come down from 235, but sadly nobody has even noticed but me.

For me, it's all about staying motivated. How do you guys deal with the negativity from everyone around you? Work is the worst for me. People that are my so-called friends are quick to make jokes without knowing that it just kills my motivation. Is it wrong that I am okay referring to myself as a fat guy, but don't want others to do the same?

I look forward to hearing your methods for staying motivated!

First of all - congratulations on the MASSIVE weight change. That's amazing work mate, you must be feeling awesome for that.

It's hard being larger than your friends, workmates or family. I can completely relate! Having people be negative and shoot you down can be really hard, but remember that changing your self is more than your physical appearance, it's about your mentality as well. Have you told them how the comments make you feel? Perhaps one on one? Or simply walk away.. actions speak louder than words.

My motivation is here - I keep a diary and people comment, it's so encouraging! Having a bad day? Vent. Have a win? Share the love! Everyone is so lovely, friendly and welcoming. It's a wonderful place to be :)
I also use Pinterest. A lot. Too much... I pin motivational quotes, healthy food ideas, exercise tips, etc before bed, and I am more motivated in the morning. If I'm feeling sluggish, I just open up my Pinterest and remind myself how GOOD it feels to be making the change. Sore legs? You're building muscle. Giving up cola? You're eliminating a tonne of chemicals and crap from your diet to improve your health. Pinterest is awesome - totally recommend it.
I also read blogs occasionally - hearing other peoples success makes me realize the struggles I am dealing with are common, and I CAN and WILL do this. Seeing transformation pictures makes me excited - my goal is to have my on transformation picture.

This journey is yours. Your feelings are yours. Do not allow anyone to make you feel anything less than amazing. If they are negative, put a positive spin on it, no matter how difficult. Even if it's just one little positive comment out of the situation.

If you believe in yourself, you can do this. I promise you, it's worth it :)

No worries Forklifts - glad it was of some use :)
