staying motivated.

How do you guys keep motivated in doing your workouts like cardio and weight training?

I'm loosing motivation and I'm starting not to give my all when I workout. I dont excersice as long as I used to and Its getting harder for me to get off my butt and do it. I'm also starting eat junky food again...cuz its hard to resist.

I'm dissapointed because I don't want this to happen, especially when I've gotten this far.

Does anyone have any tips on how to keep motivated and keep on moving foward?

Sorry if this is in the wrong spot... I want sure were to post this...

My motivation is my chubbiness (especially looking at my tummy), one look at my chubbiness and I want to run like hell, lmfao, its true too...so I aint gonna lose my motivation until I lose my chubbiness ...perfect, but them I would have to maintain.

I too have been having some struggles with motivation lately. I eat junk too, lol. (Dang stuff, why does it have to taste so good??!!)
I try to tell myself that I'll feel better after a workout (and of course I always do feel better!). Exercising has so many benefits past purely physical. It is actually more effective at treating depression than depression meds are, and has more instant results. That's pretty amazing :) And it's an instant high. I love getting that "runner's high". It makes all the tough parts worth it.

Anywho...if you do skip a workout, don't beat yourself up about it. Just start fresh the next day.

One problem I have is that I have this all-or-nothing attitude. Like if I planned on running 5 miles one day, and just don't feel like running when the time comes to do it, I just throw in the towel and skip it completely, when what I should be doing is just tell myself to run for 10 minutes...that's it...and I can quit if I still feel bad. Most of the time, when I actually implement this strategy, I end up going the whole way. The endorphins start flowing and I'm like "Hey, this ain't too bad!" But if I only go the 10 minutes, that's better than nothing!

Also I've found that I am more consistent in my workouts if I do them in the morning before my day gets started. Then I don't worry about it during the day and nothing gets in the way of it later, 'cause it's already done! Not to mention that it gets my energy going for the whole day.

Well anyways...keep trudging on :)

Oh also I forgot to add that you need to reward yourself!

What I do is I put aside $1-$2 for every time I workout, and every month or two I use the saved money to go buy myself something I've really been wanting. It helps, might work for others too.

Try changing something up or trying something new to get yourself motivated about working out agian. Don't always stick with the same routine. As for junk food, every time you want something unhealthy make yourself eat something better (fruit, veg), then if you are still hungery let yourself have a little of the junk.
Good luck and stick with it!

Women (although all my lady friends are amazing people and don't go for looks and body), health, family history of bad health, when I'm with my friends I can always out run them, feeling good about yourself, splashing cold water on your face when you're done running on a hot summer day, it helps me sleep etc. You just have to find all of the little things that keep you going.

I've always found that looking at pictures of people who are fit make me REALLY motivated to look like them. And I listen to music while I exercise as well... helps me to keep going and not give up in the middle of the workout.

I find starting off your day with a workout (hopefully generally a great workout but even if some days its just a workout) is a great way to start the day, plus it helps keep you away from overeating at night due to the fear of waking up still full and unable to work out.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I've had trouble motivating myself as well. I agree with some of the other suggestions mentioned. Listening to music definitely helps. If you're already doing that, get some new songs that are more upbeat. Also, if you're running inside on a treadmill, try a few outside runs to get a change of scenery. Or change up your workout...try a cycling class which is also very challenging. I think the main factor is changing up your normal routine so your mind and body don't get a chance to relax.

If you have the means, get a trainer for a check-in. You'll be less likely to cheat, then. Or else get a work-out "partner." You don't have to work-out together, but just be there together. If you're lifting a lot of heavy weight, you may want one doing the same exercises as a spotter.

Otherwise, don't keep unhealthy food in your house. You WILL eat it at a time of weakness. Keep healthy (e.g. lower fat) protein bars or shakes in your car for after-workout. Schedule your workouts (like an appointment) that you can't miss. Be your own drill sergeant (sometimes I'll even talk to myself quietly). Intense music helps and eliminates some stress from your day. Treat yourself to a nice sauna afterwards. Record the calories you burn every week and (until you're going consistently) try to top that every week. Remember that every day is a new day--even when you're off the wagon for three weeks, you can get back on.
