Starving

Hi everyone,

I have a few questions/concerns and I was hoping someone could help me. I have been using the spark people app to track calories and exercise. It is telling me that I need between 1200-1550 calories to lose 2lbs a week. I have been working out 5 days/week and I'm STARVING! It's not even 5pm and I've already had 1100 calories because my stomach feels like it's eating itself. Just a side note- I'm 5'6", female and am currently 170lbs. This is where my calories have gone today:

Breakfast - 2 cups of coffee and French vanilla creamer (about 200 calories. The only treat I give myself. Can't live without it.)
- 2 hard boiled eggs
-1 piece of toast with half a teaspoon of margarine

Lunch - 1 cup of grapes
- Greek yogurt (50 cals)
- 1 thin slice of deli meat
- 2 thin slices of cheese

Snack - another piece of deli meat

By 4 o'clock, I was starving so I ate a few spoon fills of my kids Mac and cheese which honestly I never do, but normally I would make dinner which consists of:

- 1 boneless/skinless chicken breast
- asparagus (6-7 spears)
- a table spoon of mushroom soup drizzled in the chicken for some flavour
- mushrooms

There, that's my 1200-1300 calories (roughly)

I need to note that I see a personal trainer 2X a week and he totally kicks my butt with cardio and strength training but seems reluctant to talk about the nutritional aspects of working out and eating right. I also do kick boxing once a week and for the other 2 days I will either go golfing (walk the course for 18 holes) and or running for an hour and a half with my dog.

So my question is, why the hell am I so hungry? Am I not eating enough? Am I eating the wrong things? The other night I had a huge bowl of steamed veggies to try and curb the hunger pains but it didn't work.

Help! I really need to get my body under control.

2 suggestions;

1) Track your water intake and make sure you get plenty.

2) If your feeling hungry, you probably need to add more bulk to your diet. Salads and vegetables would add the most bulk for the least amount of calories. Fruit has a bit more calories but it can help.

Also, if you weigh 170, you are eating less than 10 Kcal per pound, which is pretty low. You could probably get away eating at that value (10 Kcal per pound of bodyweight), but your weight loss may slow down a little.

If you don't want to mess with the calories, pretty much all you can do is trying to add more fiber (your diet does seem a bit low at the moment) and / or more bulk to your diet.

Good luck.

I definitely good on the water front. At least 8 large glasses of water a day. I will take your other suggestions into consideration. Thank you.

How big are the glasses of water?

At 170 pounds you need at least 85 ounces of water or 2.42 litres.

Things like coffee do not count as caffeine is a diuretic...

A lot of people mistake the feeling of thirst for being hungry and think that they are hungry when they are thirsty.

You definitely shouldn't be starving on a diet.
