Starting out early for Army...

I am 14(Maybe saw my age in one of my old threads, soon 15) and I have decided once I am 18 I want to join the Army. Now I am in pretty bad shape :(

I am like 5' 10" and weigh around 185lbs. I can do around 25 push ups, thats my max at one time. I still have about 3 years until I can join the Army so does anyone have a good workout plan? For eating I still need to learn a bit but I think I know what to eat and what not to eat.

What nationailty are you as different countries have different criteria for entry. Bbut for all armies you have to be very fit. A good training plan would be the navy seals one:

Warm Up
Jumping Jacks
Loosen up [link to the workout]
Windmills
Trunk side stretch

Pull Session [30 sec break between sets]
Close grip pull ups
Wide grip pull ups
Close grip pull ups
Behind neck pull ups
Regular pull ups
Close grip pull ups

Push Session [touch chest to ground if you can] [1 min rest between sets]
dips [Shake and loosen up between sets]
dips
Regular push ups
tricep push ups
regular push ups
tricep push ups
dive bomber press ups

Abdominal [try to not take breaks for maximum muscle building]
Sit ups [do not yank head on sit ups]
Cross arm sit ups
Flutter kicks
half sit ups
cruncher sit ups
lizard stretch
atomic sit ups
good morning darlings
neck rotations
neck lifts

Legs
lunges
squats
charlie chaplins
squats

Cool Down
the warm up but slower and followed by stretchs for all major muscle groups :D

That would take care of the muscle building but you would need to either eat some lean meat or a protein shake within an hour of doing the workout, do it after school as it can be quite tough too.

For your aerobic system I would do some running. Mix it up with both sprint type stuff and some distance like 5km. What I did was I found a 2.5km lap around my house and would run that as fast as possible. If you can do this sub 12:00 minutes then I think you could pass the Uk army running test.

This could be a weekly plan:

Monday: navy seals workout
Tuesday: rest
Wednesday: 2.5km run, record your time
Thursday: 5km run @ your own pace
Friday: rest
Saturday: navy seals workout
Sunday: rest

Good Luck and good on you for wanting to join the military!

Just work to do the best you can at the PT test, 2 mile run, push ups and sit ups. Do HIIT sprints to get your run times down and try these to get your push/sit up numbers up in a hurry.

You can google the Army height/weight scale to see how much weight you'll need to lose. You've got plenty of time I'd just concentrate on watching extra sugar and carbs at this age, no strict dieting just cut out the extra junk food that we all at your age. Good Luck,

MG

I was in the U. S. Army and can tell you that it's basically a good deal, but you will do a whole lot better if you go to college and enter the Army as an officer.

If you're not an officer, you just get told what to do, you do it, you get paid and that's it. If what you want is to simply be a soldier, that's cool but it gets old fast.

However, if you're joining the Army because you love all things military and want to participate in a meaningful way, going the college/officer route is the only way to go.

My recommendation, and this is only if you are wanting to make the Army a career, is go to college, then enter the Army as an officer, join the Rangers and get Airborne training as well. Ranger training is hard core but you got plenty of years to whip your body into amazing shape.

With a hard body, a college degree, and being in the Rangers, you will be living a life most people only dream of. If upward mobility within the Army organization is what you want, you will be golden.

I apologize if I'm making assumptions about your motivation or reason for wanting the Army, but you're a young man and I wish when I was your age somebody told me what was what. The point is, if you can, beg, borrow or steal the money for college, do it. It will make all the difference in your Army experience.

Cheers! :)

Thank you for all the replies!

And yes I am going for the US Army. Also, I will probably go to West Point since it is close to where I live. I just have a question, can I do a bachelor there for Economics?

My main plan is to go to West Point, become and officer join the Rangers then, and do that for like 5-8 years, maybe a little more if I like it a lot :). After that I want to become an Forensic Accountant. Btw, my GPA is 4.0 so I don't think I will have too much of a problem getting into West Point. Also, I am still in boyscouts haha(I read that was a good thing for West Point).

Anyways, I will probably try that 100 push-ups thing and still do some other exercises after it.
