speed deadlifts

i have only a couple questions. i feel like i have to improve my deadlift speed.

First off, i am wondering if it is ok to add in speed deadlifts on a ME squat day. i am not on any westside routine; i am on a 3 day fullbody program. i always deadlift on friday because it is the day to break records with a single set. usually i would do 1 Max effort set of 5 heavy squats, then a set of 5 for a press, then a heavy set of 3-5 for deadlift.

i am wondering if it is ok to do speed deadlifts instead of a heavy ME pull.

also, what percentages should i pull at? 50-60%? for 10 singles with 30 s rest?

lastly, how frequently should i do these speed deadlifts. currently, i deadlift 2 times a month. i power clean the other 2 weeks.

and should i keep heavy pulling in my routine for now, or just do speed deads?

thankyou,

1. Yes. It is almost always OK to do something different for a 6-8 week cycle if you feel you are plateauing with what you are doing now

2. I would lean more toward 10 sets of 3, starting with 50% and adding 5 or 10 pounds every week. If you are going to do singles, you probably need to do 70-80% to make it hard enough to be useful?

3. I'd do them 1 time a week

4. I'd probably do both, but it wouldn't hurt to do just speed work for a 6-8 week cycle.

Where does your deadlift bog down? If it is from the floor then snatch grip deadlifts, jumping squats, chains or bands might help. Or if it is farther up maybe SDL's, RDL's or high pulls could help.

Sounds like a programming issue. PB, what routine are you on now? LOL! Get on a good program and have at it. You cannot be chopping and changing things left, right and centre when you are not an advanced lifter.

1. Starting Strength
2. a) Madcow 5x5 or Texas method
b) WS4SB3
3. 5/3/1 or WSB

dswithers, thankyou. i am weaker off the floor. i was also thinking snatch grip DLs! il probably end up doing both speed deadlifts and snatch grip deadlifts on different weeks.

Blackbeard, thankyou for the advice but i am not the accused program hopper. i understand why you would think so though; i was in years past. only this year have i actually dedicated 6 months to 5/3/1 and now im on week 12 of a 3 day fullbody approach with different loading on each day(texas method).

This is what made me ask what program you are on because the . If you are asking about deadlifting twice a month then that does not look like the Texas method.
