speed at which food is consumed

I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I think it is. I've searched the site, and can't seem to find any info about this.

Does the rate at which I consume food have anything to do with my weight loss? A perfect example is my morning coffee. It takes me about an hour to consume my 10oz cup of coffee. I know in the end the caloric intake is the same, but does it matter how long it takes to consume those calories?

If it takes me 45 minutes to eat a salad instead of 20, does it matter at all?

By slowing down your eating, your brain is being givenn time to know that it's had enough food - and will say -hey I"m not hungry anymore -stop eating...

Thanks, Maleficent. That makes a lot of sense.

I think I'm referring more to beverages. I drink throughout the day. I know the best solution is just to drink water, but my coffee and life water are almost always at hand. I guess in the end, the calories are the same. They do help me to keep feeling full, so maybe it's not a big deal. I'm just thinking about the near constant sugar intake.

I drink quite a bit of coffee in the am... steadies my nerves... :D then after lunch I switch to water only... as long as you're counting the calories in your beverages (for instance if youo add sugar and cream to your coffee) then it should be fine.

I personally think it's better to drink all day long than to do some chugging at random intervals... and your bladder probably appreciates it more as well

your much better off leaving out the sugary drinks, they are baaaad! BUT if you cant let go of em, your best off drinking them slowly as drinking a high sugar drinkn quickly can cuase a sugar rush which is bad.

I'm trying really hard to cut out the sugar drinks. I was really proud of myself this past week for drinking flavored water (no sugar). Then, I got sick and started sucking down the gatorade (bc I knew I'd drink more of it than I would water of any kind).

I've also replaced the sugar in my morning coffee with Splenda, and barely notice a difference!

I'll keep what you said in mind, though, the next time I can't resist that Coke!
