Sparkpeople

Does anyone else here use Spark people as a tool for their weight loss?

I discovered it last spring and have gone off and on of using it. What I love about it though is that it has the exact same tools as the weight watchers website, only it's free.

I use it to journal my food mainly. Haven't really followed any of their meal plans and rarely remember to input my exercise. But again, I go back and forth from a few weeks of using it regularly to a few months of forgetting about it. However, I did just stick with 3 days worth of food journalling and am really remembering why I love it there. Looks like I'm able to eat about 1500 calories a day without suffering at all... let's see if I can decrease that down to 1300 and actually see some weight loss.

Lots of opportunity for motivation there and a good way to just keep track of everything and set goals.

I am glad that you like there resources, but sparkpeople is not a good place for health and fitness advice. They advocate low caloric intake and cardio over strength training. Both of those things are a recipe for disaster.

The best plan is to adopt a healthy deficit (1300 is to low), have a clean diet, strength train and then if needed do aerobic activity. If you want to throw up the specifics of your plan and get some advice on it, we are more than happy to help you.

I disagree Leigh - I've been using them for about 4 months now, the calories are reasonable (actually a bit high for my liking) and the advice they gave me was mostly cardio.

To each their own I suppose! :D:D

I'm loving it so far, only been on it about a week & a half.

I like all the information & the ability to track everything from nutrition to fitness to any other goal I pop up on there.

I agree with you Leigh- i have gone to sparkpeople and was quite disappointed at their ideas of how many calories i should eat to lose weight (1500)..considering a healthy deficit for me is 2300 calories, this is far too low.

They do however have a nice set up for tracking food intake/exercise.
