Has anyone had any trouble with soy products halting progress? I like soy stuff because it mixes up the menu a bit and adds protein in more creative ways but one poster mentioned it could be working against me. I also notice not many people have soy as part of their daily diets in the journals. What is the reason? Why is whey better than soy anyway?

I am having a soy shake every morning. It's supposed to be great for women according to studies with Japanese women. My weight loss is slow (1 lb per month), but I don't attribute this to the soy.
:)

Soy is a good form of protein, the reason it sometimes gets a bad rap is because it promotes estrogen. Most male body builders stay away from it for that reason. However, I have read that you can actually maximize fatloss by combining whey and soy protein. I wish I could remember where I read that..

Whey is a side product of dairy. Soy is a plant based protein. I don't see how it could be slowing your progress, unless I am missing an important piece of info.

I eat soy almost daily. And I'm in pretty decent shape ;)

well I had never heard of any issue with it either until someone brought it up. maybe they were talking about having some sort of allergy to it or something. Glad to hear its fine.

more about soy

i was always eating soya beans, never tried anything soy based other than that. i found it rather heavy on the stomach after eating it-all the time, till i cut down on soy. but then while going through some sites, i came across a post about the benefits of soy and what it contains
you could check it out at this site:

after reading this im thinking of restarting consuming soya beans again...i just hope i dont feel bloated again.

Originally soy was not meant to be eaten. Soy should only be consumed really when it is fermented.

That is the Poisonous Plant Database, in which soy has 288 listings.

The soy industry has done a wonderful job in passing soy off as a health food miracle but this is because the soy industry makes a ton of money from pushing this.

If you guys/gals are interested, there is a really good book called The Whole Soy Story.

Fermented soy (tofu is one) is beneficial. The industry has done a wonderful job at passing it off as a healthy food. There is discussion over it's benefits... however... :D

The milk/meat/vitamin and any other industry has done the same exact thing. In America soy has become packaged and processed just like all the other foods. This soy is the stuff being questioned.

In my personal opinion... the best way to eat is a raw food diet. I don't eat raw... wish I could. The reality is our bodies cannot deal with most of the crap we put into it. It's programmed to eat fresh veggies and fruits.

If soy makes you feel bloated... don't eat it or try another "type" of soy. Soy beans, tofu, tempeh, etc.
