Soy protein bad for me?

Hello,

I went to my local supermarket the other day and i found Soy protein for $4 dollars a pound, so i bought half a pound. It gives 5 g of protein per table spoon. But after reading around a bit about soy, i see that its harmful with all the strogen it has.I am not a body builder, i am 16 yrs old. Just started 6 weeks ago.

Can i take this protein supplement?
Will it be safe for me?

PLease i really need a response for this.

From every source I've read that didn't look sketchy, yes parts of the soy protein do get converted to strogen but you get healthy benefits concerning cholesterol and such but none of the negative parts of it. It has something to do with how it reacts to certain tissues. So, unless you're allergic to it, it probably won't hurt you.

Whey protein is protein it's purest form.. have you considered whey instead?

As far as I know, I am not allergic to anything, so your sayin i can take it and the estrogen wont hurt me? Thats the only thing im scared of because i dont want my reproductive system to be messed up.

The things is i dont think my parents would want me to buy the box of protein powder because they will probably think its some kind of drug lol.
So i bought the soy powder and explained to my parents, but it was really dirt cheap, so i mean i dont want to be a bodybuilder just want to excel at my lacrosse sport.

EDIT: I am just thinking of throwing my soy protien out. And look for whey but in the meanwhile, should i just take in a 1 whole egg instead of protein powder?

thanks

IF soy protein wont hurt me then I will just use that,
thanks

Are you sure you're mature enough to be taking supplements?... "my parents will think whey protein is a drug"... ??? You can buy the **** at wal-mart.

I am 16 yrs old. I am mature enough but when i said that i was just exagerating. I am going to try to find some whey protein, but does it matter if its from wal-mart? I mean i think i saw one thats $10 and its the chocolate kind and it says on the cover its 90% protein.

Would that be ok?

I like six-star brand... but to each his own. Some wal-marts carry six-star, some don't. It's inexpensive and the nutritional stats are pretty good. Tastes excellent as well mixed with skim milk.

Don't get the kind high in fat/carbs... watch cholesterol as well. You can always order online if you can't find anything good locally.

WAIT WAIT WAIT! isnt soy protein natural??? beans have soy protein right??? i eat black beans(not canned, fresh) and split peas and red beans and lentils. ARENT THESE GOOD FOR YOU??? THEY HAVE PROTEIN AND FIBER!!! very high fiber as a matter of fact. so...is getting ~25 grams of 'bean protein' ganna make estrogen and halt any of my gains??? ok im confused now. i might make a new thread if i cant get a answer XD

and my whey is 25g protein/30g serving. designer whey protein. i got it from BJ's for 13 bux for 3.3 lbs. great deal. tastes great.

and whey protein is whey protein. does the same thing. its ok to buy it from walmart. i did too b4 until i found better prices elsewhere ^^

Chill out proteinboy! ha

Soy is soy, it is its own bean then it gets processed and altered to make into other things. You are safe with your lentils. Only soy has soy protein.

yaaaaaaaaay good kuz im eatin tons of them now. theyr so cheap and i think they taste great. ^^

and yes, that whey protien looks like a good kind. reminds me of all the others...the same thing

However, beans are NOT a complete protein, so unless you're pairing all your beans/legumes/lentils with an equal amount of grain (like brown rice) you're not getting a complete amino acid profile, so the beans don't count towards protein intake for muscle repair, at least not every gram of protein in the beans.

as for 6-star brand protein, its average for quality, but I've heard the taste is pretty bad, at least compared to ON's taste.

so if i eat beans, i should eat some brown rice with them to get a complete amino acid response? i usually eat beans in a whole grain tortilla shell with some lean ground beef or turkey.

wat proteins ARE complete?
