Sport soy milk

Sport Fitness
been reading loads of bits n bobs about soy and the info is so confusing.
some sites say its ok in moderation and others say to stay away from that s**t.

any experts here know the real truth??

is a cup or 2 of soy milk a day really that bad for you health???

how much would you say is ok??

You'll probably get the same conflict of opinions asking here as you would looking around the web.

In defense of soy milk, unless your entire protein intake is coming from soy you'll be fine.

while i'm not a fan of soy, I agree with Phate...moderation is key. The problem is that literally you have a study one week saying 'soy makes men grow boobies due to phytoestrogens'.

the next week a study comes out saying soy boosts testosterone in men and reduces cancer in women.

the jury is still out, so go with moderation on soy. variety and moderation = healthy approach.

if i am completley honest with you.....reason i ask is coz i did something dozey other day...
went to buy some protein power.. saw some smaller containers that were on half price offer. there was one that said soya protein powder in big letters on the front of the container, the one next to it just said protein powder but it was the same packaging so i presumed that one was soya and the other wasnt. as i was in a rush i didnt think to examine the ingredients.
i get home and open it and think its a little diff to usual, read the back and it IS soya protein. grrr am so mad at myself for not reading before i opend it as coulda taken it back. also feel a bit conned coz i got the one that didnt say soya protein on big letters on the front and it still was grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
have never used soya protein before... so am a bit worried as have read some bad stuff about some women gaining fat as it contains alot of estrogen n stuff. dont want to end up gaining fat.

luckily it isnt one of the huge containers so wont take a great deal of time to finish... do u rekon 1 shake a day will be ok. a bit worried about it... dont want to end up fat or with thyroid problems or breast cancer (and whatever else bad i have read about it)

hmm the more i read about soya protein powder.. the more i think its gonna end up sitting in my cupboard un touched and i have wasted my money. glad it was half price

I would not worry about one container of soy protein, eaten at a reasonable rate, assuming that you are not using soybeans for most of your dietary intake (a diet based too heavily on any one food is not a good idea in any case).

Even if you accept all of the conspiracy theory anti-soybean arguments, there are plenty of things that are unequivocally worse (e.g. hydrogenated vegetable oils with respect to coronary artery disease, domesticated red meat and processed meat with respect to colon cancer) -- but even those things would require sustained consumption over longer periods of time to be significantly harmful.

nah i dont touch soya products at all really, just have fish, chicken, turkey, dairy and occasionaly red meat for protein.

after reading a little more more today i have decided that i will at least finish the powder and jsut make sure i check the can properly before i buy it next time. duh.
