Hi,
Has anyone ever tried the South Beach Diet and been successful? I tried once and didn't last 2 weeks, but have a friend who swears by it. Any advice?

Thanks,

With SB, the first 2 weeks are the toughest. You should have stuck it out, and maybe gotten some support to help you.

Once you get going its pretty easy to do as a lifestyle...but you have to be ready for change....not just 'doing a diet'.

The SB diet is one of the least restrictive low carb diets out there, however it still does have a lot of restrictions, and it's usually those restrictions that cause so many people to jump ship after 2 or 3 weeks. So you're not alone.

The thing to remember is that a lifestyle change should not come from a diet. It should come from the way you look at yourself first, and see what changes you would like to make all-around. The SB has a lot of good info and can be used as an inspiration or catalyst to get you going, but not the do-all for a lifestyle change.

The bottom line is that decreased caloric intake and increased daily exercise is the most sensible and sustainable strategy.

BTW, check out episode 15 of this weeks podcast about diets. It should be out on 12/16/05:

OMG!!! The southbeach diet changed my life after I had my daughter!! It was hard to stick to but it is worth it if you are wanting to see fast results and major weight loss! I stopped the SB diet after 2 months after I lost all my baby weight (I gained 60lbs during my pregnancy my excuss for letting myself go). I can honestly tell you that i make better food choices now than ever before...(the diet is all about "a change in lifestyle" not so much a crash diet) it is the ultimate best quide for eating in my opinion!! Good luck!
