Something strange with my shoulders...

Apologies for the vague title. And I think I put this in the right part of the forum. =\

Anyway what I wanted to ask is whether anyone has had something weird happening to their shoulder due to overdoing either weights or body weight training. Rather than aches or whatever it's to do with blood vessels and my dad and my judo coaches reckon it's burst blood vessels. It's basically red/ purpley lines where I presume blood vessels are. It appears from around my deltoids down the biceps near my armpit. I'd take a picture but I screwed up my digital camera a while ago. >_>

As I've been out from my judo I've been doing press ups to keep up my strength for when I do get back (which I finally did last week). But when I did some higher reps (a bit too much evidently) this stuff on my shoulders started getting worse. It's not painful or anything (I had to take a day or two off doing press ups after one set but I think that was more the number I did than anything), it looks fairly nasty and I have no freaking clue what to do about it. My judo coach reckons its because I was working up the muscle in my chest and arms but not doing anything else for that area (i.e. good circulation and stuff), makes sense to me and I'd guessed that already but I don't know anything for sure.

Anyway, advice or suggestions would be nice. If possible from someone who knows about this stuff or has experienced it before. Cheeeeeers. =D

perhaps there stretch marks!?

I used to get that doing standing calf raises on the machine, when putting a lot of direct pressure on them. I googled it and found numerous other folks with it and have always found it harmless. They dissipate within 48 hours, so they aren't stretch marks. Either way, this should make you feel better:

Naa, it's not stretch marks...I doubt press ups can do that to you. =\ I didn't do that many reps for wide arms ones at least.

Thanks DEF that first link was really helpful. (+rep =D) This post seemed likely...though I'm not sure.

It's just bruising. The weight of whatever you were lifting (or carrying) broke some of the capillaries just under the skin. It looks freaky because it's so close to the surface. It's not bad, and it'll go away.

I do carry a huge ass bag to school (10kg ish...) and occasionally walk back instead of getting the bus. Beings as I walk slow that's around 45 minutes. I reckon it's probably a mix between that, press ups and no excercise breathing wise.

Only thing is that the 48 hours thing which most people seemed to be talking about on the metafilter one is rubbish. At least for me it hasn't gone away when I've left it for four or more days. It doesn't hurt, aside from the nasty looking-ness of it I was wondering if it was a sign of worse to come.

Thanks for the help anyway guys. I'll see how it goes. :)
