Sport snacks

I don't know about everyone else but i always seem to get hungry after dinner...maybe like 2 or 3 hours later...tonight i went on a 3 mile walk with a friend and i was hungry when i got home at 9pm! So i had a 1/2 cup of all bran with fruit on top...what are some good snacks for the evening...i know ice cream is one of my favorites but that's not healthy!!

My last meal (snack) of the day is a slice of whole wheat bread and 2 tsp of natural peanut butter. Delicious, filling, and has that protein-carbohydrate combination the body likes.

I usually have a cup of cottage cheese and a piece of fruit, or 2 tbls. of natty peanut butter with a coule pieces of turkey breast slices or a thick protien shake with berries and bananna.

Working out right before bed can be pretty harsh. It seems we are talking more about aerobics.
It's probably not the best thing to try to spike your insulin before bed so stay away from simple carbs. Also, the body doesn't do well with carbs before bed simple or comlex. I would recommend eating a protein/healthy fat meal......whey protein and almonds, cottage cheese, or fish oil caps and prot whey......whatever ...as long as you don't have carbs sitting in your stomach waiting to be transported to your adipose tissue while you sleep.

stingo, that's actually a carb + fat meal. way more fat in peanut butter than protein. its filling because its fatty.

some experts think it also promotes fat loss...to have fats + carbs meals, vs protein + fat or protein + carbs.

to the OP, remember, you're supposed to be eating every 2-3 hours anyways, so 6pm shouldn't be your last feeding of the day.

every meal should have protein in it. for men, at least 20g per meal, for women, at least 15g.

i always found a handful of nuts will snub that hunger. i personally dont like going to bed on a full stomach so if i am hungry i grab some raisins or a yogurt. i personally think that carbs arent to great late at night unless youve been depleting your glycogen stores during the day as the carbs wont be burnt and will change to fat. have a glass of water when you start to feel hungry as it might be thirst.

IMO, you need to eat a meal at 9pm if your last meal was at 6pm. What time do you go to bed? If you go to bed at 10pm-12am then you should be eating at 9pm. I'd focus on a protein such as cottage cheese and a handful of nuts.

Low carbs and the meal has casein which has been shown to A) help regulate insulin levels throughout the night and allow the liver to relax and B) help promote healthy glucose levels.
