It seems like all snacks are filled with carbs and things that make your blood sugar go through the roof! Does anyone have suggestions for snacks that are packed with protein [or snacks that are filling] but not so fatty and calorie-ridden that it totally destroys my diet?

Oh and I was just wondering what is a good guideline for snack portions? How many calories in general?

My snacks are usually 1cup nonfat no sugar added yogurt (silhouette or astro have my favorite they actually taste good :p) and an apple or any fruit thats around, I dont limit fruits or veggies at all

or I'll have 1/2cup cottage cheese + fruit/veggie

Those are both good options because they have a low GI rating. They wont spike your insulin levels and cause a crash and will keep you fuller longer. they both come out to about 100 calories + whatevers in the fruits/veggies which I dont count. And I find them surprisingly filling, as a person who loves to eat, and eat lots. I felt quite full on them. Sometimes I add a piece of whole grain 3g fibre or more bread with it.

Others I have if I've had a good workout are peanut butter and 1slice of toast. I think comes out to about 180 calories. A little heavier, but I love peanut butter! Use the all natural stuff or make your own.

I usually try for 100-300 calories for snacks depending what I've ate the rest of the day. It all depends on your daily calories.

There's lots of options. I'm sure everyone else has some great options too!

I try to make sure that every snack contains some protein/fat combo, since that will help you feel more full for longer. I aim for around 200-300 calories per snack, but that isn't carved in stone.

A few things that I eat:
apple and cheese
apple and peanut butter
banana and peanut butter (great for pre workout)
veggies and hummus
1/2 pb sandwich
protein shake with fruit

Lately I've really been liking Dannon Light and Fit Vanilla flavored non-fat yogurt. It has 110 calories in a cup. I've been mixing that yogurt with some fruit and crystal lite(off-brand because I'm cheap) for a lazy smoothie. Or just mix it up and stick it in the freezer for a while. Pretty tasty and easy for only 150-250 calories(depending on what/how much fruit/yogurt).

If you can get it where you are Fage or Oikos Greek yogurt is awesome. It's strained, so it's thicker than regular yogurt - and it's got over 3x the protein of regular yogurt.

I eat Fage yogurt almost every day (on the days I don't eat my own home made yogurt). It's awesome. I think the 2% is 130 calories a serving and 17g of protein.

Sometimes snacks wont fill you up and thats okay cus sometimes they are ment to hold you till your next meal. Im not sure what kind of food you like. But for snacks for me I really like fruits.

Like:

-Slice lime and put a dash of salt on them
-Asian pears which are huge and they are so juicy and good
-Tuna and relish with wheat thin crackers
-whips yogurt Frozen
-Special K bars
-Fiber one bars (which taste soooooo goood)
-Strawberries with fozen cool whip

These are a couple of my favorites

Crystal

Yogurt (non-fat) -> 150 cals
1/2 cup kellogs corn flakes ->50 cals

= 200 cals
