Hello,

I am new here. Please can someone let me know if they know about the following. I just cannot seem to get info on this anywhere in the internet. People only have articles on how bad it is to sleep late but nothing on the following situation. Thank you!

I generally sleep 8 hours everyday but I go to bed later and sleep in later. So generally I sleep at 2am and get up at 10am. I then have brunch shall we say at 10:30 or 11am... My question is, is this ok for weightloss as long as I sleep the necessary amount and eat something after I wake up?? My lunch is then at 1:30 or 2pm. Then snack at 5pm, then dinner at 8pm.

Would appreciate if people do not focus on 'getting up early and sleeping on time being the most healthy lifestyle...but just want to know if this routine is still perfectly fine to loose weight as well if you are getting enough sleep and not eating late at night before bedtime. I exercise everyday as well, I bicycle outside for an hour. Do not know if this is enough either? Im 5'3 and 165 pounds. So pls any advice is going to help me. Thank you all very much.

Hello there,

Don't worry about meal timings etc.

When I fast I usually eat 1 meal a day at 6pm and I still lose fat.

As long as your eating less total calories be it in 1 meal at 6pm or spread across many meals you will lose weight.

I sleep 6 hours a night and feel fully refreshed (and lost weight) but I have friends that need 9+ hours sleep... I guess it all depends on the individual.

Hope this helps.

Hey there Kalima,

As Mark suggested as long as the energy balance is right then you will lose weight. My main question is how do you feel each day? Do you feel drowsy when you wake up? Do you think other people who go to bed at 10 and wake up at 6 feel more refreshed than you do? Nobody knows your body better than you do. If you are feeling pretty terrible then there's a good chance your sympathetic nervous system (fight-or-flight) is a bit overactive. When this happens it basically makes it harder for you to lose weight and function optimally due to the survival mechanism of your highly intelligent body.

However if you feel pretty good most of the day then there's a good chance your body has become accustomed to the change in wake and sleep time, and has altered sympathetic/parasympathic activation accordingly. Technically as long as your sleeping patterns and eating patterns are regular everyday, then the hormal secretions vital to normal function will change. The human body is an amazing thing and it can adapt to almost anything. As long as you are consuming a reasonable amount of calories from good real foods - especially animal products and exercising well, then the weight will come off. Just be patient and persistent.

Ps. If you are interested in exercise options, let me know as I'm a personal trainer and will give you some ideas.

Sleep is very necessary for good health. Both less and more sleep effects your health. And breakfast is the most important meal of the day because your body is in fastening when you are sleeping and you need a good meal at the start of the day. Exercise is essential to keep yourself fit and healthy.
