Sport six meals a day

Sport Fitness
IN bodybuilding we all know that there are no two body types the same, that being said no one diet fits all. THERE are some who disagree that six meals a day is a myth, i say NO, diets are different depending on the person,s goals, and if he or she lifts weights or not, or whatever activity they are doing, and of course the calories would be adjusted to the person,s lifestyle.BUT six small meals a day are a MUST, if for nothing else to keep your metabalic rate up. PROFESONAL bodybuilders use it, not saying we should follow everything they do, steroids and such.ALL i am saying that it has been proven, maybe not scientificly, that it WORKS in the bodybuilding world and other sports.

I say the more meals the better........!!!!!!!!!!

I generally only eat one meal a day now, the rest of the time I'm just grazing so in effect the hours of 8am-6pm are just one long meal time with a gym break in the middle :)

THAT was a good read by MR.Mcdonald, thank for posting it,but i must differ in the logic. FIRST of all when consuming 6 meals a day you are distrabuting your calories more evenly, eating every 3 to 4 hours apart. WHAT he is suggesting ( from what i understand) that if a person eats 3 meals a day and take,s a supplement of EAA would be better choice.I measure myself once a week, and i know if i missed a few meals that week there would be a decrease in my LBM,( may not be much, but a decrease) and in this game you want to move forward not back. BUT that being said ====== IF IT AN,T BROKE DON,T FIX IT!

I don't think he hasked a question. Merely posted his stance on the matter. :)
I asked the question to see if he had any basis for his stance.

Trust me, his opinion (s) are supported through quality research material, and form the "foundation of his opinion".

Additionally, meal frequency is one subject matter that has been researched a few times. In the article I posted, it is quite obvious (where) his opinion is coming from, and its research. Did you even read the article? When reading him, one really needs sound reading comprehension.

Additionally, if you really want to locate some real good research on "meal frequency" (and, how this was researched dependent on goal), I can PM him for recent research, and research in the past that are reputable. I am not promoting him, but I do "respect" his opinion, and much more so, than many, many others, I promise you.

Here is another interesting read on the similar subject (of which sites research material as a reference):

Meal Frequency and Energy Balance

Additionally, I have a few research "paper's" on the subject if you are interested. Some in the dieting world (reference fat loss goal), seem to think that frequent/multiple meals has this "magic" metabolic boosting effect, and it simply does not. I normally recommend multiple/frequent meals to a dieter, (for other reasons), but not solely for some type of metabolic adaption magic.

And, remember, "timing" of meals (specifically macro nutrients) can be different sort of discussion, than generally blanketing "multiple meals" during the day.

Just holla! :)

Best regards,

Here are some PubMed information on Meal Frequency (etc):

These are the results, end of the study, if you search PubMed (and click the associated links), it will bring you to the entire study.

I hope you did not waste all that time responding to ME.

How does six meals a day effect you differently than 3 meals with the same nutrients and caloric breakdown?

mainly it helps you maintain a more stable blood sugar. dips in blood sugar leave you lethargic, and sometimes craving food (the brain's way of getting you to eat so you raise the blood sugar).

it also helps you control cravings. If you wait 7 hours between meals, you'll be starving and are more likely to overeat, or eat 'whatever' regardless of how unhealthy it might be.

In the grand scheme of calories in vs. calories out...it doesn't matter if you eat once a day or 10 times a day.

But sticking to a change in diet, and change in portions...eating (or grazing) more often has a lot of benefit.

I think you guys are missing that my question was a joke. The OP just posted a thread without asking anything and was just stating his opinion on a subject. So I threw out a question to see if he understood the reasoning behind his opinion.

Oh...nevermind....:)

AS i read somewere,( people are always looking for a QUICK FIX) it is not easy to eat 6 meals a day, to reap the rewards there must be sacrifice.
