Hello

I am a 16 year old female. I am 175cm and weight around 96-97 kg. I would like to lose around 20kg. I go to highschool and currently don’t do any exercise. However I will to try and start walking and in the future, may join karate classes.

Hi Silver and welcome to the forum. Feel free to ignore or report the spam; our mods are amazing but they can´t be everywhere simultaneously.
Have you always been heavy or is that a new thing for you? Any specific habits that make you eat more than you normally would or things you know aren´t good for you? Assuming your parents cook for you: are they on board with you losing weight and willing&able to adjust meals if needed?
Best of luck on your journey and take care of your body as you´ll be needing it for a long time still.

I have always been heavy. My parents just mostly cook dinner and I try to eat healthy lunches and breakfasts. I think I mainly eat due to boredom. My parents cook average meals I guess. For dinner I had pasta and mince.

Day 1

7:43 AM - Porridge: 1/2 cup rolled oats, 2/3 cup blue milk, mixed with frozen blueberries

11:21 AM - Green grapes, 3 Ancient Grains & Seeds Vita Weats (11.7g protein per 100g, 11.9g dietary fibre), Jamaican ginger loaf (Ernest Adams)

1:46 PM - Sandwich: 2 slices of Country Grain with Omega 3 Country Style Bread, peanut butter

Green grapes

4:14 PM - Mint chocolate milk (Lewis Road Creamery, 300mL)

5:48 PM - Mum’s mince and pasta

6:47 PM - Figs

7:21 PM - Figs

7:42 PM - Weird dried fruit things

Would this be a typical day of eating for you? Breakfast and dinner look good but the rest seems to be mostly grazing.

Hi, Silver & welcome to the forum. There are some easy ways to switch around what you eat that may help reduce the snacking. Adding some protein to your breakfast would help reduce any cravings you may have during the day. You could add some almond meal to your porridge & a dollop of natural yoghurt. Maybe have a piece of cheese. Do you take your lunch to school? Add a small ziplock bag of raw almonds & maybe a banana. After dinner, you could prepare a small fresh fruit platter for when you feel like snacking & pick from that. You could include a piece of cheese and a couple of crackers if you like. Just replacing bad habits one by one, rather than making any drastic changes will start your weight dropping slowly. You are at the right age where positive changes you make will impact the rest of your life. You have this opportunity & I'm sure you can do it. Cheers, for now, Cate.

This would probably not be a typical day as I eat a bit more than this. I’m trying to control portion sizes. At school I normally have morning tea and lunch and for morning tea I usually have crackers/cheese or some nuts. I also have a banana for morning tea and lunch. For lunch at school I normally have a sandwich.

One of my main problems is that when I eat try to eat healthy foods there is great temptation from the rest of my food my family eats. Like in the holidays, my mum might cook samosas and spring rolls for lunch. And it’s not greats. Whenever I eat something unhealthy it just goes to my head. I think I screwed up this day and eat excessive amounts of bad food. I the think let’s eat better tomorrow and then I eat unhealthy and the loop starts again. Its kinda a endless loop... So I’m pretty much want to create a healthy relationship with food as that is probably my main problem

That's the problem with most of us. Changing your mindset is the key. One "unhealthy" meal is just that. One "unhealthy" day is just that.
You just put it down to fitting in with "life" & move on. Life is a balancing act & just being aware of wanting to be healthy is a really positive step.

Having a healthy relationship with food is the best anyone can hope for in the long run. It may take a while and you're going to stumble sometimes but as long as you get up one more time than you fall down you'll make it there.

As Cate said, you really are at the right age to make positive, lasting impact to your health and quality of life. I've always been on the heavier side, and I know at 16 losing that weight can seem like such a daunting task, especially when you feel like you have so little control over your life, your schedule, your food, etc.

I was around your age when I first consciously made the decision to try and lose weight. At the time, I had plans to join the military after high school, and I knew I needed to drop at least 15-20 pounds just to make the cut, and then I also needed to get fit in preparation for boot camp. I talked to my parents, I told my friends. I let everyone know my plans because I needed their support, and my parents started filling the fridge with more fruits/veggies, my friends would go on runs or to the gym with me, and I really started to lose the weight. Unfortunately, due to some health issues and a terrible knee injury, I never made it to the military and the weight sorta crept back up. That aside, what I think is most important for you at your age is establishing a support system.

This forum is an amazing place to start, and it's one of the friendliest online communities I've ever come across. But we can only do so much as far as encouragement and advice goes. People in your daily life are the ones who are really going to keep you accountable, and who can give you the proper sort of support as you take this journey. That said, we're all still here regardless, and we're all cheering you on!

Best of luck with everything!

Tomorrow is the last day of school till holidays! But my mum is so judgemental. She says I will get fat if I eat one slice of cheese... but tomorrow I will go for a walk with the dog if the weather is nice and if my parents let me...

That's rough, I'm sorry your mother is that way. Have you talked with her and let her know you're serious about losing weight? My parents were always on board with me losing weight, but had a very set idea about how it was supposed to be done ("just do cardio," or "girls don't lift weights, you're going to get bulky" etc), and I had to go out and educate myself on the topic so that I could turn around and educate them into realizing the flaws in their advice. The internet is a wealth of knowledge that you can basically access for free. Maybe find information that you can pass onto your mom to show her you're serious, that you've done research, etc.

If not, you know... just do the best that you can do. Still eat what you're provided, but perhaps cut back a little. Take your dog on those walks, or do body weight exercises in your room. It might take some fine tuning, but I believe you can do it. And remember, we're here for you!

I agree with everything that unstoppable said. Hopefully your Mum will come on board. Persevere, hon xoxo

Hi Silver, just wanted to pop in and say welcome!
