I need advice, because this is pretty depressing. I know its probably nothing, and I'm wanting results too quickly, but here we go. I am 5"3 and 171 pounds. I cut back my snacking and bad eating habits about a week ago. I've lost a few pounds over that time, but now the weight is staying in one place.

I exercise every day (except Saturdays) on my treadmill for at least 30 minutes at 3mph, do some pushups, situps, crunches, etc., and then I eat my 'big' meal of the day (A 6-inch subway sub, or something) while my metabolism is up.

Well, I guess what I'm asking is...am I just gaining muscle weight, or am I not doing something right?? I really really really want to lose as much weight as I can, and I've never really tried hard before so I'm pretty much confused about it. Is my exercise routine ok? Should I change anything?

All of your advice would make me feel much better, and maybe I'll stop freaking out then. Ok...I'm done now. :D

Patience is all you need. :)

It took time to put the weight on, you just need time to take it back off.

It's tough because once the decision is made 'I want to lose weight' you just want it off a.s.a.p. and well....our bodies have to take it off in their own time, which unfortunately rarely coincides with what we want. :)

Keep at it and it'll come off.

I agree with Katie! As much as we hate to hear the truth about weight loss, that is just how it goes. You are doing Great with your exerices for starting out. Keep going. You already lost a few pounds, right. So heck yeah you're doing something right. And it's only been a week. Girl cheer up. You got this in the bag.

I was watching Extreme Makeover last night and that Fitness guy(please forgive me, I forgot his name:eek: ) He had said, You could workout all you want as hard as you want but if you are not eating right, you will NOT Lose. Go over what you eat. And make sure you are getting in a little bit of everything.

Good lck to you and let us know how you're doing!!Oh yeah, don't forget to DRINK your WATER!:D

Thanks a lot for the replies, guys! I'll try to get everything into my diet that I need, but I find that to be the hardest part of all. Ach! Damn those care-free college days...lol.

Staci, u could also measure urself! I know I lost alot of weight, and then started gaining when I started walking all the time, and come to find out, I had lost like 5 inches, but gained a few lbs. Sooo...while the numbers can be discouraging, I know you can do it :) Good luck, and great job so far!!!

There is nothing more frustrating for me than when the numbers stay in the same place. What I do then is give myself 7 days to figure it out. I go over what I'm eating again, being extra careful to keep track of my calories. Then I examine my exercise - am i spending less or more time, am i don't a different exercise, etc.

I have never gotten to the end of my 7 day self-assessment without having at least gone down a little and restarted my weight loss.

Hey Staci!
Oh well, don't just feel down about your still weight. You need to give ur body to adjust to ur new lifestyle. U cannot possibly expect ur unwanted weight to go away that quick because it can strike you back with a bad yo-you effect and I'm sure nobody likes that.

I absolutely think that your lifestyle is now just great because you cut off snacks. From my diet process, snacking is okay as long as you focus on fruits or sometimes you can pamper urself with a piece of small cookies to make ur body feel fine again with that glucose intake, however, it's better to completely become strong-minded when it comes to snack on sweet stuffs. At least, those carbohydrate thing will turn to be fat stored in u if you don't use that calories intake. Anyways.

I just wanna tell u that ur doing the right thing on ur diet process and keep on going and never feel down although the scale doesn't appear as expected, but hey, everything takes time... :)

Keep on going and I'm sure that all that weight loss won't get back to u with ur strict and smart eating lifestyle...

Good luck! ;)

Hey, congratulations on your new way of life:) . Here is what I think. I think you have to increase the speed and timing of your workout on treadmill. 30 minutes on 3mph is great for mainteining weight at certain point, but not enough for continuous weight loss. Workout on treadmill is not suppose to feel comfortable. The more comfortable you get - the less effective your workout is. I suggest to try full hour increasing speed every 20 min. by one point. For example: 10 min at 3.3mph-10 min. at 3.3. mph on incline+ 10min. at 3.4 mph - 10min. at 3.4mph on incline+ 10min at 3.5mph- 10 min. at 3.5mph on incline. This kind of cardio kicks your butt big time and, more importantly, gives you results. Also, try to switch time of the day - don't do it at night every night - this way your body gets easily used to your exercise. Finally, eat your biggest meal of the day at lunch time, not in the evening and I would suggest to stay away from heavy carbs for at least 3-4 weeks and do not eat after 7p.m., not even a grape. I usually have a big cup of tea. Hot tea raises the temperature of your body which means your metabolism is speeding up as well. I do the same thing in the morning to start up my metabolism - big cup of herbal tea. Lost 37.5 lb. in 12 weeks.
