Side effects of Soy Protein?

Hi,

I started taking Keto-Slim Soy Vanilla shake on the advice of my Naturopath last month. However following 2 weeks of one shake a day (containing 16g) I stopped as I felt so crap. Tired, exhausted, moody and generally just un-motivated and really stuggled to get up on a morning. My partner suggested I stop the Soy shake even though initially I didn't think that would be the cause as there was nothing artificial at all on the ingredient list, but within 2 days of stopping I felt better and more like 'my usual self'. Could this be a mental thing or could it be that perhaps i was just genuinely sensitive to the Soy Protein?

Many thanks in advance for any advice/comments...

Do you mix it with milk?
You may have a very slight allergic reaction to milk that you only notice when u drink lots.

That or its the soy.

Try whey protien as it is by far the best protien for a shake.

or a whey + casein blended protein. I'm a fan of Nitrean myself (.

It sounds like you're just sensitive to soy. A lot of people get very bloated from soy of any kind, especially when you down a bunch via shakes.

Soy has had its shares of bashings.. The structure of soy is actually similar to that of estrogen so it can sometimes be converted to such.. Although it is backed by few scientific studies, things like bloat are noticed by most.

Just to add:

I am surprised a naturopath recommended this.

In HRT, soy is often used with other things or by its self. If hormone issues of any type are existing, soy can cause the body to depend on it for estrogen and throw the system either out of whack, or better keep it in line.

Soy and other herbs are known for having phytoestrogens, as eluded to above. To take soy if you are male, or to take it when not needing estrogen therapy/replacement/management is just plain wrong.

I would assume soy and its properties to be, quite simply, one of the primary areas of knowledge of any professional herbalist or naturopath. Therefore, the first thing I would do is find out why it was suggested and if the person who suggested it thinks you have hormone level issues.

-Aside from the fact that, as already suggested, there are other better ways to get protein levels elevated.

The biggest reason I don't like soy right now, is because none of the research agrees! Scientific study A says it increases estrogen in men. Study B says 'nu-uh!'
Study C then shows how it reduces breast cancer risk in women.
And of course Study D will claim it increases prostate cancer in men.

Until someone figures this out, I'm not going to rely on it, or recommend it to others.

Soy protein is the only protein my wife ever took that made her "weak" just under the weather . Once she stopped she was back to normal .
