Hello everyone,
I am here because I am looking for support and accountability. first let me start by informing yall (yes I'm from Texas) how I ended up this way.
growing up I had nowhere to turn to. I was always being told stuff like"you're going to be a dead beat just like your daddy", "you're a worthless piece of s*** that won't do anything but flip burgers, and even then you'll do a s****y job". long story short when you hear this your entire life you start believing it. I was always a scrawny kid. till I got into football. I was in my prime then after toning the crap out of myself. I was a beast. then I had a neck injury that put me out. and slowly started gaining weight. well ended up dropping out of school and got my GED in the next month. (i did it because my mother had a stroke and instead of trying to move schools and working I decided it was better to just get it and start working to take care of her.) but everywhere I turned people made comments and overlooked me for jobs because of it. so I started working at a gas station. well the weight kept coming. it really wasn't bad at first until my depression started. my grandma passed away in 2009 and she was my best friend in many ways she was more of a mother to me than my mom. well I was devastated. I got hospis for my mom and moved away secluding myself. next thing I knew I was 240 lbs and started trying to get it off with dieting which in turn gained another 15 over the next 11 years. I'm not looking for a magic way to get it off I know I need to work at it. my problem is that I have no motivation, no drive. my depression is part of the battle and that's y I'm turning here. I'm looking for real support. not to get bashed or told to see a Dr because I have. but otherwise this is me.

-- How much weight do you want to lose?
I am 265 and need to be about 175 max. so 90 lbs.

-- What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight?
I would like to have this accomplished in about 1 year. that means
I would need to lose 7.5 lbs a month in order to reach my goal.

-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)?
just about anything. I would prefer not to do too much tracking because when I see I messed up I tend to mess up more and more till I give up.

-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal?
not sure really. I don’t have much when it comes to support, but I want to be healthy for my kids.

-- How realistic is your goal?
it is possible if I can have accountability and support.

-- When will you start?
I already have.

What is your current height and weight?
Hight 5ft 7 in
weight 265 lbs.
bmi 41.5
Class 3 morbidly obese

If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be?
150 lbs. to 155 lbs.

At what weight would you like to be at four months from now?
about 230
Why do you want to lose weight?
I’m tired of hurting all the time. I can’t play with my kids. and have a hard time getting a good night sleep.

Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as a wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event?
no I just want to be healthier and feel better.

What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?
my depression. lack of confidence and support.

Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?
I don’t think… I know.

What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?
being more active.

Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?
yes, I had some co-workers who helped keep me motivated in the past.

Why do you believe that you did not lose weight, or you gained the weight back?
I lack the confidence and the support. taking care of my kids and working 2 jobs and school tends to help make bad habits.

What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Why do you think it did not work?
counting calories and “dieting” tends to drop weight but it all comes back when you slip up.

Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?
yes

Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?
sometimes. a lot healthier when I don’t

How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?
2-3 times a week. subway kfc McDonalds (salads don’t look at me like that)

steaks fish and sandwiches.

What are your three favorite restaurants?
Ohanas Cheddars and Texas Road House

What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?
stop eating out and meal prep on my days off for the week

If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?
I wouldn’t be fat. id have the same definition I did when I played football.

Do you eat when you are not hungry?
when im at work. overnight security tends to be lonely and quiet. not much I can do when monitoring foster kids

do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?
during my meals sometimes. just eat till I feel full.

Do you hide your food or eat in secret?
no

Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?
yes

Do you eat as a reward?
fancy restaurants

Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?
yes

What do you normally eat for a meal?
yes?

What type of snacks do you eat?
tree nuts or canned fruits

In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?
trying to do pushup and sit-ups and jumping jacks. I go till my body hurts. elbows won’t let me do more than 35 pushups, but I try anyway and just feel like crap because I’m not physically capable of doing it anymore so I force myself and just hurt for the next 3-4 days. (pushups)

Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home?
work, home, or gym if I am at work when everything opens when I get off. (does not happen very often)

What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?
bench-press squats (weighted) and running.

What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?
my kids.

Do you have rewards for certain goals?
well normally we would go out but that’s probably not a great idea

Welcome to the forum, you will receive lots of support from members here. :)

Hi, 007. I'm not going to call you by your user name. Would you prefer 007 or James (James Bond)? You will get nothing but support here. I love how you have opened up to us. I'll come back in the morning( Australia) to comment properly on your first diary entry. I just wanted you to know how welcome you are.

lol the spider pig is, unfortunately, a nickname I was given and am known to a lot of people. I made fun of an episode of the Simpsons back in highschool, but call me whatever u like it does not bother me.

You have been so open and honest and that takes balls, my friend! Welcome to the forum - we are a friendly bunch and if you can commit to posting you will find a lot of support. Hana x

Hi James, and welcome! Some random thoughts about your first post:
- Out-exercising bad food habits is very hard but getting active is rarely a bad thing nonetheless.
- I would suggest not overdoing your exercise to the point where you're sore for days as that makes it hard to keep going long-term. Maybe try to find an intensity where you're sore on day two but ready to go again on day three?
- Maybe you can take up a hobby that'd keep your hands busy during night shifts so you're less tempted to graze. Knitting perhaps, wood-carving if you're allowed to have tools there, or drawing?
- Whatever you do I think it's great that you're trying to better yourself despite having so much going on in your life.

Welcome SP! Starting this diary was a great idea, if you keep it up I think you will find it to be a big help.

I suggest logging your food and exercise daily here so people can see what you are doing and better offer advice and support. That is what I do and so far it has worked for me. Sunflower is right you have been very open and honest being able to do that will certainly help you. I am looking forward to following your progress.

ps Being originally from Louisiana I understand the southern nickname thing, nothing wrong with being Spider Pig, it's just a lot of letters to type.

Hi SP . Welcome to the forum. Not much to add to the others except you have found a lovely bunch for support

SP it will be then :) I assumed it had negative fat connotations, never having watched the Simpsons :blush5:
I don't think it would take long for you to start really losing your excess weight if you can cut down on the junk food & add in fresh fruit & veg. Exercise makes you feel better about life & yourself, but what you eat is most important for weight-loss. Bananas are really handy to eat while you're out & about. Maybe a container with some cheese, celery, snow peas, cherry tomatoes? Beef jerky is a very handy protein snack to have away from home. I love that you want to be healthy for your kids. Don't be in a rush to lose weight fast. Do it healthily & you will be a great example to them. How many kids do you have?
