Shoulder Injury

Hi everyone im new to this but i was wondering if someone could help me.

I recently hurt my shoulder(i think i hurt it on incline press) and have been trying to figure out what is wrong with it. It hurts when i do flat bench DB press, also incline DB press, and Declline DB press. It particularly hurts the most when i go close to my chest with the weights on. It is a shooting pain.

Thanks,
Clay

i have the same issue. i cant recall the exact muscle name right now, but it sounds like you hurt one of the stabilizers in your rotator cuff. Does it hurt like pins and needles shooting from the front of your shoulder to your neck, following your clavicle? if so, lay off the presses for a while, then start back when you feel its better with LIGHT weight until you know how it will react. For now, start doing rotator cuff exercises (google works great) to stabilize those smaller muscles. And when you return to pushing exercises, remember to pinch your shoulder blades together and lower them (it should feel like they are in the end position of a rowing exercise) before you lift, as this helps put your shoulder in the best position to avoid shoulder inpingement.

Does the pain radiate or is it in just one place? If the pain is radiating it could be nerve related, which is typical of the "pins and needles" type of pain. Otherwise it could be a muscle strain, or even ligament sprain. But no matter what it is, the best thing to do is rest it until it feels better, over working it will only make it worst. What I make my clients do who have poor shoulders, is always warm up with Turkish Get Ups, there is no better exercise for developing shoulder stability, mobility, and flexibility. That would be a great exercise for you to do to assess your condition before you start back into your weight training. And as black stated, proper form is essential, you do indeed want to pull your shoulder down and back into its socket when performing any type of pressing movement

Yes, if the pain is sever enough and persists long enough then see a doctor, but mostly likely he'll just tell you to rest. When you are ready to try and work your shoulder again, I really suggest you try turkish get ups. If you need a tutorial, please visit my website at
