Should i stop running or what?

Well i went from 188 pounds to 155 in about 2 months. I dont feel fat anymore, i still have fat on me but nothing noticeable. I did lots of running on my treadmill and im wondering if i should keep running or should i just start lifting weights? Im 5'5, 155 pounds and a 17 year old male.

Im planning on stopping at 140 pounds and then put on some muscle mass which should'nt be that hard. Am i going too far by going down to 140 or is this the perfect plan?

start slowly

First - how did you lose that much weight that quickly. That's +/- 4 pounds a week, which is 14,000 calories a week deficit. That's 2K a day. Did you eat smart during this time? If you did and are healthy, you could / should start running a few days a week. Even if you start lifting weights it's not a reason to discontinue cardio work. But start out slowly. Only add a mile or 2 to your total distance on a single run each week. If you never want to run more than 3 or 4 miles you can be at that point in a few weeks. You said you ran on a treadmill. How long ago, at what pace, and for what length of time per run? Running on a treadmill is easier than running on the ground and pushing your own weight. If you could run 3 miles in 30 minutes on a treadmill, that same 3 miles on the ground might feel like 4 and take 35 - 40. So pick you first run distance & time accordingly. If it's been more than a week since you ran you've lost a little endurance. If it's been over a month you've lost more and you should cut the total time back about 25% from your last long run time. That's all generic and vague - what your level was and how long ago will determine where you can start now.

Well i started running 30 minutes, going at 6.0 mph for 5 minutes and then rest for 5 minutes, i did that routine for about 3 weeks. Then i just started running more instead of taking breaks. And i just didnt eat too much, i ate corn flakes for breakfast with a bit of 2 percent milk, and i ate fruit for lunch, and i ate a sandwich of wheat bread and tuna in water with lemon as my 3rd meal. Maybe thats not eating a good diet but hey i dropped all the weight and i think i can stick to this just for the simple fact that im disciplined enough to know that some pizza or anything fattening would make me depressed.

When I started running, I went from 170 to between 150 and 155 in about 2 or 3 weeks. And no matter how much I run (which is 50 miles/week now), my weight doesn't drop below 150. Reaching 140 lbs may or may not be possible depending on many factors including your height. Being 5' 5", it shouldn't be a problem (ideal weight for small framed men who are 5' 5" is 134-140 lbs) But going too low is obviously unhealthy. I wouldn't concern yourself with losing any more weight. Just keep running and continue to eat healthy. Do not starve yourself to lose weight. If you're hungry, then eat. That's the great part about running.....you dont' have to worry about gaining weight. And if you continue to lose weight, then so be it. But like I said, keep running because there are so many benefits, short term and long term. If you feel the need to gain muscle mass, then go for it, but keep at least 2 or 3 days a week open for a nice jog.

Can't hurt to keep running. I lost about that amount of weight in the same time period too. I still want to drop about 15 pounds, and I'm definitely going to keep running, even though I'm going to start building muscles too.

Yea i sometimes wonder about that too. Like can I dropped into the 140 pound zone? Right now im 155 and im hoping to stop at 140 pounds and just make sure i never go past 150 pounds for the rest of my life.

I think i take this fitness thing a little too seriously, im 155 and my confidence is through the roof but i really wanna make it clear to everyone that i have changed as far as physique goes, i look slimmer but i still need to lose more.

I gave HIIT training a try and i couldnt last 5 minutes, lol. I warmed up for 2 minutes at 4.0 and ran at 10.0 mph for 1 minute and i could barely finish that minute.

Im just going to stick to running at 7.0 mph for 25 straight minutes and build on that.

I am actually concerned about your diet. I am curious of how much you actually eat a day. You should be eating 4 to five small meals a day to keep your metabolism.

I know just how you feel. I went from 225 to 193, but I still want to get down to 175. I look slimmer but I'm still overweight and I want to lose that.

My weight loss has slowed down however, but I'm not eating minimum like I was when I lost the initial pounds. Just keep at it for a while, and your weight will slowly go down, and take comfort in the fact that you're already thinner and anything extra you do is a bonus.

First of all, congratulations on the weight! Be very careful how much you do too fast. Its easy to be feeling good and fit and want to keep building and building on that, only to find yourself obsessed and injured. There is a point your body will be resistant and less cooperative, and you should be prepared for that psychologically or you could end up with a eating disorder (even if you are male). Adding HIIT too fast, or too intense, especially in running, can be a blessing or a curse. Too much fast stuff, too often will land you with pulled muscles or plantar fasciitis so just be careful of increasing speeds too quickly. However, it is a wonderful tool in increasing fat burning and fitness :) Good luck

No. Men don't have eating disorder :)

UH yes, they can.
