Should I "create" this calf exercise?

So I'm trying to find a good calf exercise, and I don't have a rack or anything like that.
I was thinking maybe I could stand on a wood block and do barbell calf raises, only hold the barbell in front of me acoss my waist. Or even in my arms like a Zercher squat. Does anyone see any disadvantages to this?
I'm going to try it for a while, does anyone have any opinions?
 
sounds good. just keep your balance as it will be harder without a rack.
