Im finding it difficult to stick to a "healthy" diet, Its like I just dont have the will power. I usually eat well for a couple of days then I find myself unable to say no to a piece of cake, or I do well for a couple days and then I have a bag of chips. Its not really bingeing(sp) but I cant seem to eat right all the time. So any tips or hints would be great to keep me on the right track. Sometimes its hard to say no. Thanx

If you implement a safety net of parameters, it becomes much easier. As for myself, I will not carry excess cash so I cannot buy fast food. Also I don't carry credit or bank cards. Then, if you have a susceptibility to a certain food, buy it in advance when you grocery shop, the lowest fat and calorie version that is available. That way its not a total failure, just an adaption to the way things are.

i actually encourage eating the chips... just not the entire bag and not the regular chips. like get the baked chips and eat just a few pieces. not every day either but maybe a week or so.

the reason why i think it's good is cause if you restrict yourself alot you'll find yourself feeling well... restricted and people will tend to binge from there. so like indulge in a scoop of low-fat frozen yogurt versus regular ice cream. but don't over-indulge. that is the key.

however, if you want to TOTALLY be good, then I'd suggest not being even near the proximity or situations of where there's gonna be the bad junk food. Like before you go to the store, eat up so you won't impulse buy the chips. In fact, don't have any chips or cake or what not in the house.

when you want something, wait 5 minutes while drinking a cup of water. while you're drinking the water, envision how many calories that item you want is. how much fat and how much sugar it is. think about the goal and is this item really worth it. if you say yes it is worth it (like eating a slice of your parents' 50th anniversary cake) then go for it. if you say no it is not worth it (like you're just bored at work and there's a snack machine downstairs) then just stay away! i find envisioning helps alot for me. I wait 10-20 minutes and usually find I didn't REALLY want it in the first place (works well when shopping for clothes and accessories too! ;) )

Thanx for the suggestions I think that I will give them a try, especially staying away from "bad" food, cuz its so temping when its around. Thanx again I think these will help alot :)

I just had to say that I'm exactly like you; usually I can go for a while but I'll always end up "failing". This time though, I've realized why. I need motivation ALOT, and to keep my interest in losing weight alive I need to get a little piece of that everyday. For me it helps alot to skim through or read a couple of articles from a health magazine a day, or go online and read different articles. I find this forum very motivating by the way, with a bunch of people being able to stick to their diets and exercise.
Anyways, just thought I'd share that! :D

Self control is hard...but what I think would work the best is if you really think to yourself...Would I rather down this piece of cake or would I rather look slim and be healthy....Plus finidng out why you over eat is a good option.....
