Sean's Diary

Hello there,

My name is Seán and I began my weight loss journey on Monday 22 of June, today is day 9. I'm 22 years old, 6'2 and I decided to lose weight once I hit an all-time high of 103KG, after a terrible binge.

I weighed in today at 95.5KG which I'm absolutely delighted with, 7.5KG lighter than when I began. The majority of this weight loss has been water weight/drained glycogen reserves but I have definitely lost some weight too. I have been doing plenty of weight training so that I maintain as much muscle as possible, and eat adequate protein. I am, however, on quite a restricted diet of 1,000 calories per day.

The reason why I chose such a restrictive diet is that I need to retrain myself some much need self-discipline. I also want to get to 90KG as quickly as possible and I will then reassess things and aim to lose weight at a more manageable pace. I will be starting a new job soon in a top firm here in Ireland and I need to be looking my best.

So that's it, folks! Hope you're all having a great day, feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

All the best,
Seán

Hi sean,

Just read through your other thread and see you have good start on the process. You sound very motivated which is great. I'm looking forward to reading about your progress.

I like the idea of moving off of such a restrictive diet of 1000 calories and moving to a more manageable pace for the long-term. I think the long-term lifestyle changes are best if you don't want to fall into the trap of weight coming and going. I can get the idea of wanting a kick-start though and it sounds like you've gotten it :)

Hello Liza,

You're definitely correct, 1,000 calories wouldn't be maintainable for the long-term. My goal is to get down to 90KG as quickly as possible and to then lose another 10KG over 3 months. Thankfully, I generally have quite a fast metabolism but I've completely let myself go this year due to exam stress and being unemployed during the pandemic.

However, I'm in a completely different mind space now and I am absolutely determined to return to get back to my old self. I find that I struggle to stay motivated unless I see results from my diet, hence the larger calorie deficit.

Thank you for reaching out Liza, I'll be sure to keep you posted about my journey!

Hey Sean, welcome! Starting this diary was a good thing, I have found mine quite helpful, hopefully you will too.

Losing 7.5 kg in just 8 days is very impressive, a great start! 1,000 calories a day is low, but for a while I think it is doable if you watch your protein and nutrients. I lived on about 1,200 calories a day for over a year and did fine. I did ask my doctor about it first, but he approved.

I am looking forward to following your progress!

Thank you very much, Bob!

I'm very happy with the progress thus far, but I'm fully aware that the next 5.5KG will come off at a much slower pace. I'm actually finding the 1,000 calories a day quite manageable! I don't eat until around 1 pm when I have my first meal consisting of 500 cals and then my second meal then at around 5ish.

I have a family party this weekend so I'm going to enjoy myself, and then I will fast on Sunday to offset some of the extra calories I have consumed. I did the same thing last week after over-indulging with my family on Saturday and found that it worked well.

My calorie deficit from food alone last week was approximately 11,500. I also did about an hour of cardio every day and weight training several times last week. I'm hoping to achieve something similar this week, wish me luck!

I must say, I do feel so much better. Hopefully I can stick to it for a few more weeks!

All the best,
Seán
