Hi all. I am new here (first post!) and am looking for a little advice. I am 23 and have lived a pretty sedentary life, video games being a favorite hobby of mine. However, a few weeks ago, I decided to start learning and training for Parkour. Check out some YouTube videos if you don't know what that means... pretty cool stuff. After a week of learning the basic roll and wall climb techniques, however, it was obvious that I am seriously out of shape. Here is some info:
I am 23
I am 5' 11" tall
I weigh 135 lbs (a huge problem. I have a VERY fast metabolism.)
No medical conditions
No past injuries with lasting damage
I have learned in the past week that:
I can do about 100-150 reps per arm with a 10 lb dumbell, and about 10-15 with a 30 lb dumbell
I am only capable of about 10-15 push ups at a time
I remember being able to to more than 100 sit ups as a kid, now I can barely make it to 10.
I can only do about 10 pull ups at a time, but that may be because the only place I have to do it is a door frame, and I only have about an inch of wood to grip with my fingertips.
I did all of the above exercises two days ago... And I am still too sore to do even one sit up. My arms are sore, but still capable of lifting, albeit with less endurance and strength.
My diet used to be... Ok. My wife and I like to cook, and we try to make a good meat or pasta main course, and usually incorporate a vegetable or potato. But we ate a lot of unhealthy snacks throughout the day, and never ate breakfast. My wife does not eat beef, so we have chicken a lot. we don't eat a lot of fish because it's too expensive. But in the past few weeks, I have eliminated fast food, processed meats, excessive sugars, salty things, and all beverages besides water and the occasional hard cider. (It is my weakness... I love Woodchuck! I try to limit it to less than 3 per week) I eat more often, but in smaller amounts, and I'm more conscious about what I eat. I must say that since changing my diet, I do feel a lot better and more focused.
So, what sort of exercise plan should I start? Is there anything in particular I should be eating? Not eating? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
