Hi there to all you Cohen's fans out there.:D

I just wanted to say that yesterday was one of the best days of my life, when I found this support group.:)

This is actually my second go at Cohens, I had some good looses last year when i first started (22kg in 12 weeks), but then i went off, and got back into my old, bad eating habits. I have now gained back nearly all of it, minus 4kg, so i'm very determined to do it right this time.

I called my consultant, and she said i may need a new program written if my blood chemistry had changed, but luckily for me and my wallet, it hadn't. so I can use my original program :) even though it had been many months off the diet.

I'm going to be a regular on the support forum, and am lookig forward to chatting and getting to know you all.

Welcome to the site!

cohens too

Hi

I have just found this website as my determination has recently waned. and i need to get back on track. I joined cohens in early june and have lost 11kg . Feeling absoultely fantastic, just have about another 15kg to go.. How do I stop myself from getting off the beaten track??? It is so hard with social occasions and functions to say not and you think "it wont hurt today, i'll get back on track tomorrow" .. For the last couple of weeks tomorrow hasnt arrived for me yet. Although today is looking good so far (it always does unitl the social hour - dinner time) I seem to be an emotional eater too - so when my kids are driving me nuts or my husband (mainly husband) i tend to want to snack!!

Would love to hear from others in the same boat that are on cohens too to see what advice you can give me!!

Hi Sam

I found that using an exell log every day to record weight (yes, yes, I know weighing is meant to be monthly!) helped to keep a focus on what I was doing - and why!

Remember that you don't have to eat Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, but you do have to eat three meals each day. Obviously, there is the timetable to consider, but if you have certain times in the day when you can't help but snack, plan a 'snack meal' to eat at that time. Prepare it ahead - say, when you are preparing one of the other meals, so you have it ready to snack on.

I got into the habit of taking a cut up apple with me in a Tupperware container, a couple of the crispbreads, a bottle of water and a toothpick! Then, when I was feeling a bit stale I could just open the container, snap the crisbread into twelve small 'chips', and that gave me about (let me see - 24 pieces of apple plus 12 chips) 36 mouthfulls of hard, crunchy snack to work my way through (but who's counting!!). (The toothpick was to pick the apple pieces up with.)

I used to be a peppermint addict, and could eat my way through rolls of XXXX mints each day, now the mints are not as appealing and I still take the apple and crispbreads (and toothpick) out with me, or eat it at home if I get fidgetty.

For me, late at night when the family is asleep and I am finishing off a report is the time I am on the prowl. I am in maintenance and just like in 'Animal Farm' I certainly dont want Mr Jones (the old, fat, me) to come back into my life.

Hope this helps

Regards

New too

Hi there

I've just joined this site too, and am very keen to get chatting to anyone who is on the Cohens, or has done the cohens

I've been on it for 4 weeks and a bit disappointed that i haven't lost terribly much. I have my 4 week blood test tomorrow and so far have only lost 4.8kg. I weigh myself daily, but as the weight is not coming off very quickly (in fact I only lost 400g this week!) I find it very disheartening. Still I've stuck to it 100%. Hoping I will have some better results next 4 weeks. But I will try to weigh myself less often. I was becoming obsessed with those scales jumping on 2-3 times a day.

Anyway, looking forward to finding some sort of support group, as I am in regional WA and have no clinic to actually go to.

I'm currently on maternity leave, and have 2 kids under the age of 2, so stress and boredom are a big part of my life (not to mention lack of sleep!). I've always struggled with my weight, even as a small child (I had a mother that loved me with food!) It seems to me I have always had a love/hate relationship with food, and after my two pregnancies, just balloned out.

I am really hoping that I have found the answer this time, and not just another fad diet that will get me to lose weight, and then just put it all back on again.

The amount I have to go seems so daunting, and the rate i am going at i feels like I am going to be doing this for a very long time.

Does anybody else feel like that?

I'm not struggling with hunger or anything, just the lack of choice and missing out on those things i love like a glass of wine, or a slice of toast!

Hi LC

Welcome, and good on you for doing this! It works!

I don't really think Cohens has a lack of choice. You will learn how to season your food so that it tastes completely different every time. You can use your fruit with the meat and veg, you can experiment with rocket, spinach, etc, there are so many nice spices such as curry powder (on chicken), and rosemary and oregano on beef. There are lovely recipes on another site:

then you can use sprite zero, I use it with all minced meat once it's fried I just pour some in and it gets soaked up. Off course, I miss a slice of bread or a glass of wine, but nothing tastes as good as slim feels!

I have a spread sheet where I enter my weight each morning (so far the worst that happened was 'no weight loss', never put anything on), and everything I eat and just how much I drink, which fruit etc, so I can see if there is a pattern. I also weigh all veg and meat on Saturday for the whole week, and freeze it, so cooking it up actually takes 5 mins. When I'm out, I cook in advance and take it with me.

Good luck

Katrin

Check with your consultant why you are not loosing weight quicker. Any deviations, as minute as they may seem, throw you back a week or so.

thanks kagiesen

I've been reading some of the other sites and have picked up a few pointers, so maybe i havent been losing much due to the amount of cheese i eat (i like cottage cheese at lunch time with my crackers) or the size of the fruit I have been eating. Lately the apples and oranges at Coles have been HUGE! They definately don't qualify as medium sized! Also I'm wondering if the amount of yoghurt I'm eating has anything to do with it. I tend to eat it pretty much every morning. Do you think thats too much dairy. I love it, and it so quick and easy, as I tend to not get to eat till later in the morning due to having to organise a toddler and 4 month old baby.

I regularly have only the 2 litres of water a day, should i drink more?

When I said lack of choice, I guess I meant that I couldn't have many things that I used to have, and I'll just have to get used to rethinking what to eat. Still old habits die hard!

Welcome Slinki and Sam ( hey that's me too)

Goodluck with your weight loss journey's. You will both find lot of support and inspirational stories here.

Sam I know exactly what you mean I am an emotional eater and it is usually when I am bored, tired or the kids are driving me insane. My new treament for this is to keep as busy as possible, take a walk around the block(if this is possible) make a cup of herbal tea, chew gum or get on this forum this helps the majority of the time. Advice with social events? well all I can say is be prepared and take your allowances with you, take low fat allowable drinks with you and...and? I've run out of idea's.... I must admit I found the socialising very difficult while on plan so to be truthful I didn't really do alot those month's on plan.

Slinki I am also back on plan but modified slightly so I can incorporate exercise, it's good that you have returned to this forum we will offer all the support we can.

All the best to newbies and returnies.

Sam:)
