Saw Palmetto and Hair Loss

Hey guys I was wondering if any of you guys have tried using saw palmetto supplements for hair loss? I'm 22 and have a history of hair loss in my family and am starting to notice a receding hair line. I'm looking at taking gel caps (Puritan's Pride) or maybe a shampoo (I saw one called Zenagen that has saw palmetto as an active ingredient.) Would love to know if any of you guys have tried any of these before or have any advice. Thanks!

Hi,

I haven't looked into the products you mentioned, but I think finasterides is the best way to go.

In a 5-year study of men with mild to moderate hair loss, 48% of those treated with Propecia (finasteride 1 mg) experienced some regrowth of hair, and a further 42% had no further loss.

Another thing, you should look at your mothers father. That's where the 'hair loss gene' comes from. If he have/had thin hair, you may also be in the danger zone.

And there's always the option of "who cares if you get thin on top?"

I don't. Hell, hair just gets in my way and makes me hot in the summer. I've been shaving my head for over a decade now.

LOL! that's what my hubby does too. i think it is worse if it is a female with hair loss b/c we can't just go ahead and shave our heads....haha! you guys have it easy.

I am with Mal, above....

After my comb over flipping incident, I just shave the shiat. Being bald is sexy.

Plus there is a sort of unity with the other "brothas" that hang around. :)

He, he

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go bald one day and i'm kinda pumped for it. Right now i'm only 19 so I can't pull the look off yet, but when the day comes and i'm ripped and ready, you guys better bet yalls asses i'm gonna shave my head gear off.

That's just a myth. The genes can come from either parent.

dabulls, I have heard of women using Saw Palmetto for hair loss because it blocks the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone. I think if men were to use it, they may experience problems such as erectile dysfunction, lower sex drive, and possibly breast growth. Those are just POSSIBLE side effects though, so if you're willing to take your chances, by all means...

my mom's dad is 72, absolutely no hair loss/receeding hairline
I just turned 24 and no signs yet *knocks on wood*
