Sauna Suits

Just wondering what people's advice is concerning sauna suits. I know when my husband was trying to help someone lose weight for military entrance they basically told him to wear it 24/7. Kid lost weight fast. I wear the top while I work out, and wear the both the top and pants while I sleep. I know it makes work outs feel better. I'm literally dripping sweat only a short while into it. I know with sleeping in it, I keep up a sweat all night. But are they worth it? I know it is pretty much water weight, which is easy to gain back. Plus they wear out so fast. This is my second suit in a month. Once the elastic cuffs break a seal, they are not as effective.
Any words of advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

You said it yourself. It's just water weight.

Not only are you just losing water weight which will come right back as soon as you drink something, you're risking heatstroke and worse by wearing it 24/7 and when you work out.

When you work out wearing the suit, it's the same as exercising hard in, say, a New Orleans summer at 95 deg and 100% humidity. You're going to make yourself sick or worse, wind up in the hospital ... all for nothing.

Couldn't agree more with what was said - unless you're trying to make "weight" for a competition (like wrestling/boxing) it's really pointless. It's not real weight loss.

soso right. Its too risky IMO to be wearing that suite 24/7.

Raising your body temperature might give you slight increases in calorie loss (maybe 5% at best), but it really isn't worth the risks. If you constantly have a higher body temperature and say took a cold shower suddenly then you can pass out. Something like that happened to a football player when I was in high school, he took a cold shower after a workout and the shock caused him to pass out hitting his head on the concrete floor.

Sweating is great, but extremes like that are only justifiable for athletes who have doctors gauging their workouts. I usually spend a little time in the sauna before working out and after, not too long. A sauna suit seems to be going overboard, though.
