Same old story...

Ok, I will qualify, I am a rather blunt, practical person, I'm actually a biologist (though unemployed right now :D) and I've got a very good background in biochemistry, physiology and nutrition.
So whenever I'd hear the cliche tale of weight loss woes "ooooh, I've been working so hard but nothing seems to work", I'd generally roll my eyes and ask the whiner in question "are you really being honest with yourself?" and go on into a spiel of how the laws of physics are inmutable; diet and excersize will invariably cause weight loss. Then I'd probably insinuate that the questioner is likely sneaking donuts at midnight and trying to cover his/her shame with the age old tale of "nothing works for me, it must be my metabolism" etc.

In any case, since becoming unemployed in September (career change time, science is SOOO boring) and having nothing better to do, I thought I'd dedicate myselfe to a hardcore exercise regimen; ninja training. Ok, maybe not too hardcore, I started off with what I'm capable of and plan to increase intensity as my fitness improves. I'm watching my diet too, though not too strictly, (I probably eat too much meat). I did cheat 3 times, likely consuming an extra 1000 calories on those days, but I did not skip any work outs, except when I sprained my ankle (I think i missed 5 days or so then)
Otherwise I have been doing only cardio, 45 minutes + of DDR a day, and also playing tennis and soccer for 1.5 hours each per week on average.

But behold. A month passes, and NOT EVEN A HALF POUND OF WEIGHT LOSS.

In my karmic past, I would usually yet again roll my eyes if someone tried to rationalize their lack of weight loss by attributing it to "gaining muscle". Yes, muscle is more dense, but our average fatty (myself included) pursues a more cardio-centred excersize regimen, perhaps interspersed with toning exercises. Definately not the kind of weight training that will produce significant muscle gain over the course of a week or even month.
Still, being so frustrated, I thought perhaps I really did just "gain muscle". I measured myself at the beginning of September, and WOE. NOT INCH LOSS either. I mean not even a quarter inch.

Ugh. So has anyone else been in this situation??? Where you honestly try your best and get ZERO results? I mean this is over a month (5 weeks actually), I should really be seeing something... How do I explain this??
The only thing I can conceive of is the fact that I do have a more sedentary lifestyle now (when not exercising), even though working in a lab is not that active a profession.

Someone help me out here, I'm really bummed.
I really think this maybe is just karma.

Well without knowing your current weight, calorie intake, just how sedentary your current lifestyle is, etc it is hard to judge. You need to make sure there is a total loss of calories. Even if you typed those things it is hard to judge online, as everyone is different.

Something that may help is this link http://weight-loss.fitness.com/topic/16780-easiest-fat-loss-tip-ever.html That link was the first thing I thought of when I read your post. You might be eating more then you actually think.

The second thing I thought of is you might not be burning a whole lot of calories. DDR as your main cardio source probably doesn't burn a lot of energy. You might need a better source of cardio. You mention that you are starting slow, why not try walking? It is easy to do, and an hour (or more) a day burns off a ton of calories and increases your fitness more then you would expect.

Well, this month i'll try cutting sugar from my coffee, we'll see what that does, and eat less meat.

And I haven't been able to find a calorie expenditure count for DDR anywhere, I suppose it is not your traditional form of exercise, but I'm certain I'm burning a lot, a whole lot more than I would do by walking. It is not as intense as playing soccer, but I'd compare it to an 80s aerobics tape intensity level.
