runningfor weight loss-new to it all

i havent ran really for years what is themost simple way for me to build up the amount of time i run for?

spoke to trainer yesterday who said running will give me what i need slimmer legs ( long distance running) and weight loss but he didnt really go into detail as to how and now he isnt around for bit can nayone help?

start small, and build up slowly....remember anything is better than nothing!

The question of weight loss is really one of diet... excercise will help promote subcutaneous fat loss (between muscle and skin) over visceral (around organs)... where diet alone favors visceral fat loss...

So your question could be turned around and ask... how much running is too much... and the answer lies in your milage and intensity... rules of thumb...

don't increase milage by more than 10% per week...

Follow a hard workout with an easy one... you don't have to run all out every time... or even most of the time...

--- you just can't run 7 days a week and 6 probably won't give you body enough time to rest... personaly 4-5 times a week depending on distance and intesity is all my body can handle...

I had the same situation when I first began. I was told to start walking early morning empty stomach (drink big glass of water before going out to walk) burns more calories and helps with weight loss. warm up 10 minutes, walk 20 minutes, then cool down 10 minutes. Gauging how fast you should walk will depend on you. If you can talk sentences while walking without being out of breath then you need to speed up your pace a little. After walking for approximately a month speeding up your pace every week, you'll be ready for running. Make sure you have excellent shoes. I hope this helps. It helped me. Good luck..
