Running + Weight Training... need advice!!

I'm hoping I can get some good advice and criticism on what i'm currently doing. My friend and I have been going to the gym for the past 2 months now.. when we first started our main goal was just getting in shape and distance running. We run every other day.. about 3 miles (burning about 550cal). On the days that we don't run we lift weights.. full upper body workouts.. usually about 2 exercises for the following muscles: chest, triceps, biceps, shoulders, back, abs. So our week goes like this:
Mon- RUN
Tue- full body workout
wed- RUN
thur- full body workout
...etc... we usually hit the gym every day.. no days off. We found that the day in between allows our muscles/legs to recover. My goal is to lose body fat and gain as much muscle as i can simultaneously.. (dont know if thats even possible).. i'm a newbie... please criticize away! :)

A few thoughts here...

First, I doubt you are burning 550kcal in 3 miles. That is approximately 30 minutes +/-. More like 300 - 350 kcal.

Second, it is difficult to gain muscle and lose fat simultaneously, but it is easier for newbies.

Third, I don't agree with working out the upper body and not the lower body. Running will not substitute for a lower body workout. Why not run on the same day you do upper body workout?

Thanks for the reply! I was just going by what the treadmill says as far as calories burned goes.. I usually run at a 7.0-7.5 pace for 30min on the treadmill and it says I burn about 550cal (I weight 180lbs).. so im guessing the treadmill is probably over estimating that then. I am actually going to be starting to incorporate leg workouts into my routine starting next week. As far as running and doing upper body on the same days... I dont think I'd have enough energy to do both.. usually by the time im done running Im drained.. and same with after lifting. I think next week Im going to start a slightly modified versio of P90X.. but instead of the kenpo, cardio, and yoga days.. i'm going to substitute in running :). How does that sound? Thanks alot!
