running = walking?

hey i wondered if running and walking have the same effect (for the same distance)..... i feel it does but some people say it doesnt..... i run 1k everyday at 10.5kph and walk 1.2 kms at 6.7kph.....these are at seperate intervals though.... is this good or should i reduce the frequency and increase time of my exercise?

There have been some theories that state the calories burned by walking a mile and running a mile are very close AS LONG AS the walking increases your heart rate to a point of cardiovascular strain. Time is the biggest concern tho, you can run a mile a lot faster than walking :D

i have heard that it's the exertion, not the distance.

This is what I believe also, The above post was just a theory.

The way they think is muscular wise, it takes the same amount of muscle power to run a mile, and walk a mile. I think this theory isn't accurate though. I tend to think like you do.
