Running = Sugar craving

My Girlfriend has recently taken to running regularly. She has never exercised on a regular basis before at this intensity. She is now experiencing extreme sugar cravings. I initially told her it was just her body using up energy which it wasn't used to using before, but now she tells me it is getting worse, and craves it all day everyday - to the point where it's driving her mad. Anyone experienced anything like this before?

Fruit and other forms of GOOD sugar (complex-carbs) should cover this craving. Tell her that she is doing a good thing by running, don't foul it up by following with a reeses!

:)

Also, maybe she should consider going to 6 small meals per day (if she doesn't already do that).

Feed her oranges and grapes or something for the sugar cravings. Although it sounds like she is not getting enough energy from the food she is eating. If she was at a healthy weight before running, she might have to increase her daily calorie intake by 200 or so calories. It might actually be by up to 800 calories if her running is intense, assuming she is trying to get stronger legs.
