I've been running for a couple of weeks. I've been wearing my Basketball shoes and was wondering ifit would help much if I invested in some running shoes.
Thanks
my sister has been running a lot longer than i have(with many half-marathons under her belt) and she always tells me that there is nothing like a good pair of running shoes. besides, that is what they are made for. if you are serious about becoming a runner, i'm sure it would be a smart decision to purchase a good pair.
Yes, get yourself some running shoes. Other sport specific shoes will not always give the support and cushion you need as a runner, plus if they are anything like my basketball shoes, they are much heavier than running shoes.
Basketball involves a lot of running, I'm surprised they'd make shoes not conductive to that. Maybe they grip more and are more built for pivoting or leaping?
Thicker soles for sudden stopping vs constant running. Multidirectional movement versus linear movement. Two different types of running really. Atleast that would be my guess.
They are different. Running shoes are lighter, and usually are made to allow air to move over your foot to cool them down.
Basketball shoes, are made/designed to establish support for your ankles for pivoting, and turning. Not to mention the extra padding for jumping and such.
A good pair of running shoes coupled with keeping your run easy will greatly decrease your chances of becomming injured - also allowing you to run for longer!
I'm with everyone else, a good pair of running shoes is critical. It's kinda like playing basketball without a basketball, just doesn't make much sense.
