Running shoe for a wide foot.

Little info first.

I didnt start seriously training/running until a couple months ago. And I'm still not on a solid routine partially because of a recent injury. Shin Splints/stress fracture. I know I shouldnt be running on it at all since the pain is still there but Ive been trying to strengthen it and I shortened the running load now after 2 weeks of almost complete rest.

Ive never had shin splints before but for about 2-3 years I went from amatuer athlete to doing almost nothing. 1-2 years (when I saw the gut forming) I ran/exercised irregularly, and seldom. Now these past couple months (and here I go in a circle)...

Ok.

After researching shin splints when I incurred the injury, I realized

-I have knock knees.
-I have a flat foot and a WIDE foot.
-I don't have running shoes.
-I run on concrete sidewalks mostly; few large gradual hills. (since the injury Ive made a few trips to the local high school track)

Ok, again.

I highlighted "wide" because now I'd like to buy a pair of running shoes to help prevent/heal the injury to my right leg. I just recently picked up some insoles for the "comfortable" but worn out sneakers I'm wearing and thats when my wide foot really showed... The side of my foot hangs off the edge of the padded insole a little. So I'm thinking that not being able to contact with my whole foot surface is probably the biggest contributor to the injury among all the other factors.

So forgetting the insoles for a moment, does anyone know of any decent running shoes tailored for a wide foot? I prefer a cheap, easy to pick up shoe since money is tight and I woudnt know where to go for a custom shoe (cant imagine it being cheap either). By cheap I mean under 70 bucks.

Realize the best shoes for me may be considerably higher but I'm thinking any type of running shoe is better than wearing these worn out Etnies.

(sorry for the long winded post for such a simple question- figure Id save questions being asked)

Well I got new balance shoes there for people with little to no arch. You Definitely need support and overall having the right running shoes helps everything.I remember when I first starting working out I bought these running shoes but they were nikes 2 months later I hardly could walk I had the worst pain in my foot well it turned out that the shoes were for people with high arched feet so I had no support for my almost flat feet but I didn't know anything cuz I Jes Started with working out so trust me having the right shoe matters a bunch well it did for me. If your having problems with your shins I wouldn't suggest running on concrete it's to much of an hard impact when you run you need something that gives a little when your feet hit the ground that highschool track is good. I found my shoes in this runners magazine and then I jes went to a buch of athlete stores and tried to see if they have them. Sometimes it'll say when you go to the store like high arch no arch and if not SOMETIMES the people will know

good luck

Thanks, that helps. But the question is can I get it for a wide foot? My uncle has a wide foot and bought a pair of new balance.. not running shoes, but I guess its somewhere to look.

Edit: Awesome.

Beautiful designers at New Balance Express let you search by width, and you can order them in different widths depending on style.

Now... I need to find a store that carries a good supply of the cheaper models in different widths. Thanks again.

I also have to say that you should check out new balance. I hear their shoes are quite good. I have been using thier shoes for the longest time. Generally i buy thier running shoes even for regular use because they are structured inside better than most shoes... i think it may be be because i have a high arch? haha. i don't even remember why my mother has been making me buy new balance shoes all these years... but i do enjoy them and would definately recommend them.

I've also got a rather wide foot. The shoes that I've like so far are my new New Balance shoes, and my previous asics. Both were running shoes. My asics provided almost no cusion, which I liked because it felt like I was walking around barefoot. Now with the new New Balance shoes, I got some with 'stretchy' material around the widest part of the foot; and they fit really well. I bought them for 50 bucks at some discount store. Though I'm not sure how well they'll work for a flat footed person.

But I've been happy with Asics and New Balance as wide shoe makers.

New Balance makes shoes in "Wide" sizes, yes.
