running programme: how to start??

HI,

I'm 19 years old and I'm looking for information on how to start a running programme for myself. I haven't done much running and I wondered how I would start? Do I just go for a five minute run 3 times a week or something?? to build up my strenght. Then can I slowly increase to 4 times a week or instead of five minutes, 7 minutes??? What do you guys think? I haven't a clue, maybe I need to find a "Running guide for dummies". lol

I'm not in the best shape, that why I want to start running. It won't take me much time and I can slowly increase my own strenght.

Do 20 minute run/walk 3 times a week to start. Run as far as you can and then walk to complete the 20 minutes. Try to gradually run farther each time until you can run the complete 20 minutes. Then increase your pace until you can do more than 2 miles in 20 minutes. Once you get to that level then you can try some other routines.

If you really want to get into shape quickly try 30 minutes of weight training on 3 alternate days a week.
