Running Parachute

I've thought about getting a running parachute. Does anyone else have any experience with them? Did they help? Are they a waste of money? I'm looking to improve my running speed and power.

I have got to see a picture of this.

I have a canop (parachute) you can borrow. You would have to run really fast tho.

We lived on a farm when I was young and my dad was marathon training. He took the drag that was normally pulled behind a tractor to level the driveway and hooked up a rope harness to it. He would run up and down the driveway pulling it.

Find an old tire, tie some rope to it and tie it around your chest :).

Sled is the way to go, but they are more expensive. The problem with parachutes is that if you're dealing with a lot of wind you really can't have the wind at your back, and running into the wind can create bouts of instability when there are gusts... not really mimicing what a chute or sled are intended for.

Hmm, sounds like I might be better off dividing my time between long distance runs, sprints, HIIT running, the rower, and some weight training.

We used parachutes in high school track. Just the sprinters used them to practice what it would be like to run against the wind. Our track was very protected, but most others weren't. I don't think it helped much.
