Running on an Empty Stomach

I heard this burns fat faster but also eats up your muscles and energy. But my question is what should I eat after I run on an empty stomach that won't bring fat back into my body?

The "fat burning zone" is a myth. Eat before exercise, some simple carbs like oatmeal along with some protein.

I never heard of that one, but I don't eat about 4 hours before a run because I find I run better when I feel hungry-ish

Last year I ate all day and a couple hours before running I dropped intake so I didn't have any digestion issues when I went to run, afterwards a solid meal with carbs and protein. Worked well for me then, but it'd be better to have some moderate active fuel in your system I'd think.

well this is the way I understand it....Your blood can cover two of three area's at a time...

1. Your brain.

2. Your stomach

3. your Body for exercise.

Ok, your Heart will constantly feed your brain...So that one is consistant,

But your body Diverts blood to the stomach when you eat food, to help with processing, And then when your exercising it will divert blood from other area's to those muscles being exercised.

As the old wives tale goes, wait 20 min to exercise/swim because your stomach will cramp up. IE your body does not have the Blood it needs to supply all area's at the same time, The exercise will take over for the stomach if you exercise right after eating.

Not sure if it is true, but I makes sense to wait at least a half hour after eating if you are going to exercise. I would not exercise on a empty stomach

Not only does the stomach require blood that should be going to the muscles during running, but also the jarring of solids in your stomach can cause cramping (it does for me) so I typically don't eat for a few hours before running. All I know is I run on an empty stomach because as of this june, we'll be running in the morning before breakfast at OCS.

I get those stomach cramps too .. in fact, thats my worst enemy when it comes to running. Does anyone have info/links on why this happens and how to avoid it?
