Running in morning

I read that running first thing in the morning is better because it burns fat.i don't eat before i run, someone said that burns your muscle. I am kind of confused, could someone set this straight? is it good to run before eating anything first thing in the morning?

If you have no energy in your blood your body goes catabolic, which means its breaking down your muscle fibers to use them as energy.
You will also start to break down some fat, but not as much as muscle.

Running on an empty stomach is pretty stupid.
You need to eat properly so that you can put more effort into your run. If you have no energy then you simply wont be able run as fast or as long.

You could passout. now, when i tell people that they say
"but I dont feel like I'm gonna pass out, I feel fine"
well, this is because your not pushing yourself hard enough in your exercise. If you did a run 90mins after a good meal and plenty of water you'd be amazed at what you can do. but try doing the same without food and you WILL passout.

so... eatting food + run faster = burning fat, getting fitter and not losing muscle mass.

Truly believe that R.Lewis. I'm a beginner and I'm starting running tomorrow (weathers) getting better (Canada)! I'm excited!!

I see what your saying. But if I run after I eat, even if I waited like 1 hour in between I get striking pains on the side of my stomach. I can't eat in the 1-2 hour window before I do any aerobic exercises, and I also run first thing in the morning. What do you suggest I do?

Someone had recommended me to drink 40grams of protein prior to bedtime since I wake up so early to run. When I do that, I don't feel hungry in the morning until after my workout. What do you think?

The only reason you dont feel like eatting is because your not used to it. I was the same about 2years ago.
I started out eatting a protein bar, simply because it was all I fancied eatting 1st thing. Now i have oats, brown toast and fruit or orange juice eggs and toast if im working out early.
Orange juice has a lot of sugar, which is bad. however its a great tool for an energy boost 1st thing.

you should have protein before bed anyway yes.

about the pain... maybe the food you had was too heavy. if your going to be running try somthing light like toast and a bannana and protein shake.
eggs are a great breakfast but they can weigh you down.

also when you get your body into the routine of eating numerious small meals a day with a good diet, it really won't bother you as much to work out after a meal. Just give yourself sufficient time.

Thanks for the suggestions. Its just that I workout at 6:00AM in the morning. Its too hard for me to get up any earlier than that to eat food. I hope that protein shake prior to bed time may help.
