Running for 14 year old

I'm a seasoned runner and do many miles. Recently next doors 14 year old son asked if he would accoumpany on my run. After asking permission from his parents (I've got a clean CRB); They are very enthusiastic of his interest for running.
For a 14 year-old, he is very good, but for now I limit his runs to no more than 6-10 miles on any one day and a couple of days rest in between.
Problem is, he is so pitifully underweight and wants to do my full 20-mile runs.
I know he'll do them no problem, but he is strong and willing to push himself, to the limit of his endurance, but don't want to injure him, also he shouldn't over-do it just yet. His parents say he's always been thin and eats heathly and sparingly. Even I'm extremely thin, myself, but I don't want to cause him damage and lose my trust.
He's also joined the local running club, but enjoys our runs the best and is looking forward to the up-coming summer runs and events.

Help please...
I've let him train with me on my longer runs, as no-one said it should be a problem. However, he has become very obsessed about training and his weight.
Recently, we had just finished a 22-mile run, which was done very well, and he kept up with me all the way. and got back. His mother called him for tea and I got changed.
Half an hour later he came calling as asked if we can run a bit more. I quizzed as to why - as he just had his tea. He then told me he has been purging after a family meal, and had done so for a while(even I noticed his weight drop) and has gone very thin. He goes running in lunch breaks as well.
Anyway, we did run another 10 miles that night and most nights, but I fear for his health, even I'm really skinny, so when we run on hot days, people think we're starving ourselves His parents don't know, should I tell them?
Should we continue training and let nature educate him?

you shoul tell them because purging is not good. it can cause cancer in the mouth and is bad for the throat and mouth because of the acids that are in the stomach that comes up in vomit.

I've told him - and decided it's not a good idea; so he's stopping.
He wants to be thinner than me, so we agreed that I will supervise his diet and training as long as he sticks to it. We've both cut our calorie intake by half (I'm on 1250 a day and he's on 900 a day) and do around 15 miles a day.
His parents want him to stick with it, so I will prepare both diets and record progress. His words:
"since ive been running, my friends say i'm getting faster and faster. training is good, and noticed my body getting really fitter and leaner. enjoying dieting, even if painfull, but am going to keep going"

You know why you haven't gotten many replys? because we think your either mentally retarded or simply and idiot beyond belief.

If this isn't some wacko made up story you decided to create? Then know this, You are doing everlasting damage to the kid.

Cutting his calories down to 900 is not a smart move. A long distance runner does not eat 1300 calories a day. I was a long distance runner for quite some time, I ate upwards of 3500 calories a day just to maintain my weight. As well did every other competitor i have raced against. ASwell does every good pro long distance runner!
Becoming "Thin" will not help you run. What the Hell, are you trying to do, create less of a wind resistants?

Not going to keep up the training / diet for more than a couple of weeks - don't fret, I would not ask anyone to harm themselves.
His parents are in 10/10 agreement and also we train with a club.

careful he might turn himself inside out. But it wouldnt make much difference his bones look like they are on the outside anyway JK:D

omg hawt, don't you think so, Paulrun?

^that pictures disgusting.
Personally I think this story is made up, however I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say this:
900 calories per day with that amount of exercise will not make you lean. Your muscle will deteriorate. I'm starting my summer fitness program tomorrow and let me tell you this, although I'm only running 2-3 miles I'm doing it quickly, at an intense pace. I'm taking in well over 2,000 calories per day. Your boy won't get anywhere if he is too weak to stand up straight.

She is very fit!
