Running day after leg exercise

Hello, I'm now doing a routine where I do weights monday, wed, friday and run (HIIT) tues, thurs, sat, sun. I was wondering since wednesday is my leg exercise day if I should not run on thursday because the legs are sore. Is 3 days of HIIT enough? I go about 4 miles each time

Re: Running after leg exercise

Do your legs give out at the end of your 4-mile run on Thursday? If they don't, I can't see how you would be overtraining your legs. And if they don't, you probably aren't pushing yourself that hard, but 4 miles is a lot of distance for HIIT. This is my opinion. Whenever I do squats, my legs are completely dead for biking the next day, and I'm probably not giving any time for muscle recovery. You will burn about 1/7th less calories by skipping a day. You really need a full day of rest with the amount you're putting in unless you're loaded with supplements and need to meet a min. weight for a body building or weight loss competition. The day of rest is also important for you to take your mind off of exercise and break the monotony. Go for a long walk along a new trail, sit by the pool, or read a book/see a movie.

Legs, heart and abs can work every day. But, I agree, it doesn't sound like HIIT to me. Please explain your HIIT workout.

Agreed on the above posts. You couldn't pay me to run let alone do HIIT the day after my leg routine. A four mile HIIT session would be like 16 times around an oval track. Do you walk/run/sprint that much?
