Running before Lifting.

I read an article about preference the other day which shocked me.

I remember around 2 years ago when I had first started the gym I would run for 1 hour and then go hit like every machine in the gym like a noob.

But the truth is, I did start dropping LBs pretty fast.

Now I'm doing my FBW 3 times a week and as some of you know by the ends of these workouts all I want to do is eat and sleep.

I've come very far in my lifting from when I first started doing the 3 x 12 routine and I feel very strong and know I am getting big but the 40 or so extra lbs resting on my body are making it hard to see.

Diet is such a huge challenge for me because the 2 times in the past I lost a lot of weight I did it by smoking. I quit smoking 6 months ago and jee wiz, I can't seem to cut back on the eating/snacking.

so between the eating/not-running I'm not getting to a point where I am happy at all.

I'm interested in HIIT/Elliptical/Jumping Rope

A big issue for me is having a plan. I have my MWF workout plan and I stick to it so I know if I just had a plan with running It would really make me happy guys.

So I guess a couple of issues I'd like to address are

1. can i run before my weights like i used to?
-if so should i run normal? or do hiit or jump rope

2. if i do start running before my workouts should i then change up my routine?

Here is 1 thing I'd like to share before I end this. I go to school 5 days a week. My gym and school are very close to each other and I'm about 25 minutes from both. So M T W TH F are all cool for the gym. As far as SAT + SUN go....I will want to do at home cardio or outside in the streets.

P.S. the article I read (in case you were wondering) said that running before lifting was your choice depending on what you want and it's not a "golden rule" i guess.

I run and workout either on separate days or do it morning/night. I would highly suggest not doing HIIT before a workout, because if you are doing it properly, you would be worn out.

I don't have any evidence to back it up, but personally I would wait to run after you work out. I jump on the bike for 10-15 minutes before I work out simply to get the blood flowing.

If you still have energy after your workout, then that's when I would run. I did read an article a while back that stated the people that did cardio directly after a workout burned x% of calories more than the people that didn't. Of course you'll burn more, but it was more that doing cardio by itself. I'm not sure what that percentage was, but it was significant. I'll try to dig up that article.
