Running and funny stomach ache, please help.

I have been training for my 2nd half marathon and unlike my first half where I was training early in the morning, I am now training after work between 4-5 pm. I try not to eat anything after 2pm as to not upset my stomach or get cramps and I have found that my stomach has been really funny on my runs, almost like gassy with some stomach pains. I am very good about not eating anything that is upsetting and I try to drink a lot of water throughout the day. It's really weird and getting annoying. Does this happen to anyone else? Any advice?

And it doesn't happen in the morning? I take that you'd eat after working out in the morning. Perhaps try not eating after 12pm and see how it goes, with a short run.

Does it begin to occur after a certain point during your run, say 5 miles?

What do you usually eat at around 2pm? Also, what do you tend to eat for lunch? Just a guess, but maybe you're lactose intollerant or something.

For lunch, around 12pm, I typically eat a sandwich with either a piece of fruit, some yogurt, crackers or pretzels. Around 2pm I normally just have a granola bar. I know I am not lactose intolerant. The stomach ache normally occurs right before I run and it comes and goes while running. It doesn't necessarily come around the 5 mile point or go away at a certain point either. I find that it lasts throughout the evening also and doesn't go away after I eat dinner. I did just buy Beano (its a food enzyme that is supposed to help with digestion of certain foods that can cause gas or upset stomachs). So I am going to try that and see if it works. Thanks for your help.

that sounds dodgy - you said you start to get the ache before your run. maybe it's something to do with your job; are you sitting in the same possition all day? and then for it to persist all evening - i'd go see a doctor. where abouts do you feel it? is it actually in the stomache or in the intestines? could be wind. Do you suffer from IBS? is it giving you the ****s? getting a bit personal now, me thinks.

i actually have a similar problem but i think it is because my diet consists of too much lettuce and other bulky foods but on some runs i get terrible gas or what my friend calls "bubble guts" usually ends up in a mid-run break to the bathroom! i've noticed that when i run at a more erratic pace, maybe i start out to fast and then burn out earlier in the run it happens or if i start slow and speed up over and over throughout the run
